\u201cI think every time we\u2019re doing something good, everybody gets excited,\u201d Perez said. \u201cThe guy behind me is trying to do his job, you know, just try to keep the line moving.\u201d<\/p>\n

\u201cIndia getting it started by squaring the ball up, I started to feel like, \u2018All right, maybe we\u2019re starting to see this guy a little bit,\u2019 because that was two in one inning,\u201d manager Matt Quatraro said. \u201cAnd then Jensen had another good at-bat. It wasn\u2019t like they were swinging from their heels. They were hitting balls hard through the middle of the field.\u201d<\/p>\n

Two-out rallies by the Brewers<\/a> doomed the Royals.<\/p>\n

\u201cIt wasn\u2019t necessarily a loss of focus, it was just a lack of execution getting ahead in the count, because the stuff felt normal today,\u201d Bubic said. \u201cThey just made it hurt with two outs. It\u2019s a pesky lineup over there. They\u2019re good for a reason. They just did their damage with two outs and took advantage of the free 90 feet I gave them.\u201d<\/p>\n

Bubic registered a 40% whiff rate and struck out eight batters. But the Brewers did all their damage on the four hits Bubic allowed, and all on fastballs.<\/p>\n

Eleven of the 14 runs the Brewers scored this series came with two outs. Pesky indeed.<\/p>\n

Former Royals pitcher Angel Zerpa was a factor in the Brewers winning the series<\/a>.<\/p>\n

The left-handed Zerpa, who made his major league debut with the Royals in 2021, came up big again in the eighth when his pickoff throw nailed pinch runner Tyler Tolbert for the third out. Tolbert had broken for second on Zerpa\u2019s move and guessed wrong.<\/p>\n

\u201cIt\u2019s a left-handed pitcher, you\u2019re rolling the dice,\u201d Royals manager Matt Quatraro said. \u201cIt\u2019s a tough situation for Tyler. We\u2019re down by a run, and you have to take a chance there.\u201d<\/p>\n

Jaylon Thompson talked to Zerpa about returning to Kansas City<\/a>.<\/p>\n

\u201cI have a lot of fun memories,\u201d Zerpa said. \u201cThey helped me a lot.\u201d<\/p>\n

Zerpa has done well in Milwaukee. He hasn\u2019t allowed a run in three relief appearances so far this season.<\/p>\n

\u201cHe pitches like he\u2019s been doing it for 20 years,\u201d Brewers manager Pat Murphy said. \u201cHe\u2019s got good rhythm to him, good pace to him. Attacks the zone. Seems like a great competitor, a fierce competitor. I love that about him.\u201d<\/p>\n
