Boston Red Sox supporters began chanting for Fenway Sports Group (FSG), which also owns Liverpool, to “sell the team” after a poor start to the 2026 season.<\/p>\n

The Red Sox<\/a> have largely underperformed over the last six years, with supporters still furious about the 2020 trade of superstar Mookie Betts \u2014 who has since claimed three World Series titles with the Los Angeles Dodgers in what is regarded as one of the most catastrophic deals in MLB history. This was compounded last year when the team traded Rafael Devers, another transaction that has been haunting Boston.<\/p>\n

Owner John W. Henry and FSG<\/a> have seemingly orchestrated trades and offloaded both Betts and Devers to cut costs, while the same organization invested over $500 million at Liverpool<\/a> last summer.<\/p>\n

Red Sox supporters seem to have completely lost patience with FSG, with chants echoing throughout Fenway Park during their defeat to the Padres on Sunday.<\/p>\n

Supporters were heard chanting “sell the team, sell the team,” following another sluggish start from the side.<\/p>\n

The Red Sox have reached the playoffs only twice since 2021, with their most recent appearance coming last year. However, it was a quick exit for Boston, losing to bitter rivals, the New York Yankees, 4-0 in the opening round of the postseason.<\/p>\n

Henry and FSG have controlled the Red Sox since 2001, with no obvious sign that they intend to sell up in the near future. Over the past 15 years, Fenway Sports Group has poured hundreds of millions into Liverpool \u2014 including splashing out over $300 million on two signings last summer in Florian Wirtz and Alexander Isak.<\/p>\n

While Liverpool supporters have had their moments of discontent with FSG regarding investment, the ownership group has shown little hesitation in spending big \u2014 something that has not gone unnoticed among Red Sox fans.<\/p>\n

Boston’s batting has been a significant cause for concern this season, managing just six runs for the first time this campaign in yet another defeat.<\/p>\n

The side has now dropped seven of their last eight fixtures, sitting at 2-7, with frustration mounting in the bullpen just as much as in the stands.<\/p>\n

Devers and Alex Bregman, who departed for the Chicago Cubs following an All-Star campaign with the Red Sox in 2025, are fresh in the memory.
