Brody Bumila is one of the top pitching prospects in high school baseball. Currently, he is committed to play for the University of Texas next season.<\/p>\n
Unfortunately for the Longhorns<\/a>, the overwhelming belief is that he won\u2019t make it to campus. The MLB will come calling. His first start of the season further confirmed Texas\u2019s fears.<\/p>\n The left-hander was dominant on the mound. It represented a positive step following a year of uncertainty.<\/p>\n Bumila had to have elbow surgery which caused him to miss his entire junior season, at least as a pitcher. He\u2019s returned as a senior as a man on a mission.<\/p>\n Who is Brody Bumila?<\/p>\n He\u2019s been described as a \u201cunicorn\u201d<\/a> by baseball scouts. At 6-foot-9, he towers over his competition. It feels as though he\u2019s right on top opposing batters upon making his delivery from the mound.<\/p>\n He used that size to his benefit on the basketball court this past season, averaging 40 points and 20 boards during Bishop Feehan\u2019s state title run.<\/p>\n He\u2019s just as intimidating on the bump.<\/p>\n The pitcher didn\u2019t get to flash his stuff as a junior. He was used mainly at first base and as a designated hitter last year while recovering from injury. That will change in 2026.<\/p>\n Bumila is gearing up for one final season at the high school level. He wants to prove to scouts that there are no concerns following the Tommy John surgery.<\/p>\n He did that and more in his first start of the year.<\/p>\n Bishop Feehan, located about 40 miles south of Boston, took on Hopkinton in high school baseball<\/a> action. Bumila blew threw his first two innings, striking out every hitter he faced.<\/p>\n He ran into a bumpy third frame, hitting three batters and allowing one run, but the pitcher totaled nine Ks in his three innings of work.<\/p>\n Given the injury history, Bumila remains on a pitch count.
