Several teams have already secured their positions, while others will have opportunities to do so once this week’s area series concludes.

In Class 1A Area 15, the situation is straightforward. Ider and Skyline have both clinched playoff spots for the area; now, it’s just a question of who will be the area champion and earn the No. 1 seed to host the first-round playoff series, and who will finish as the area runner-up and travel for the first round. This will all be determined this week during the Hornets and Vikings area series. Game one is scheduled for Tuesday night at Skyline, followed by game two on Thursday at Ider.

Class 3A Area 13 could be quite interesting, with Collinsville, Geraldine, and Fyffe competing for the area championship. The Collinsville Panthers stand at 4-0 in area play after sweeping Geraldine and Sylvania. The Geraldine Bulldogs are currently 2-2 in the area, having swept Sylvania but lost two games to Collinsville. Likewise, the Fyffe Red Devils are also 2-2 in area play, with a sweep of Sylvania and two losses to Geraldine. The Sylvania Rams have been eliminated from playoff contention with a record of 0-4 in the area.

The Panthers and Red Devils will face off in a significant area series this week. Collinsville just needs to avoid being swept to secure the area championship. On the other hand, Fyffe must sweep Collinsville to keep their playoff hopes alive. If Fyffe completes the sweep, the area will likely end in a three-way tie, which will require AHSAA tiebreakers to determine the area champion and runner-up. If Collinsville wins even one game this week, they will be crowned area champions, and the Geraldine Bulldogs will finish as the runner-up.

In Class 6A Area 14, the Fort Payne Wildcats need to accomplish one task to repeat as area champions: they must sweep the Southside Panthers. Fort Payne boasts a 3-0 record in area play after sweeping Gadsden City three weeks ago. The Wildcats will travel to Southside on Tuesday and then return home for game two on Thursday. If they cannot complete the sweep, Fort Payne fans will have to wait and see what happens next week when Southside and Gadsden City play their area series.

As for the Plainview Bears in Class 4A Area 16, their playoff hopes remain uncertain until next week, as their opponents have not completed their area play. Currently, Madison County holds a 4-0 record in area play, with series scheduled against North Jackson this week and New Hope next week. Madison County has already swept DAR and Plainview this season. New Hope also stands at 4-0 in area play, facing the Bears this week and Madison County next week; they have already swept North Jackson and DAR. North Jackson and DAR have been eliminated from playoff contention with records of 0-4 and 0-6, respectively. The Plainview Bears are currently 4-2 in area play, having swept North Jackson and DAR but dropping two games to No. 2-ranked Madison County. This week’s series against New Hope is vital for the Bears, as it could position them for a playoff spot.

In Class 5A Area 13, the Crossville Lions are currently 0-2 in area play after losing two games to Boaz last week. The Lions need to secure victories over Sardis and Douglas in the coming weeks if they wish to make the playoffs.

The AHSAA playoffs are set to begin on April 24th.

This week is crucial for DeKalb County baseball teams as the race for playoff spots intensifies.
