The St. Louis Cardinals got straight to work on their rebuild last offseason, trading away veterans Sonny Gray, Willson Contreras, Nolan Arenado and Brendan Donovan. Gray was the first player shipped out by Chaim Bloom, and the Cardinals landed pitchers Brandon Clarke and Richard Fitts from the Boston Red Sox in exchange.<\/p>\n

St. Louis was also slated to acquire a player to be named later, meaning the trade was not yet fully complete. However, that changed on Monday when the Cardinals acquired another arm from Boston to complete the deal.<\/p>\n

“We have acquired RHP Patrick Galle from the Red Sox to complete the Sonny Gray trade,” the Cardinals announced on X<\/a>. “He will be assigned to Single-A Palm Beach.<\/p>\n

Galle was selected by the Red Sox in the 17th round of the 2025 MLB draft out of the University of Mississippi. The 22-year-old has a live arm with a fastball that can touch 99 mph.<\/p>\n

The Cardinals have been looking for high-upside pitching to bolster their farm system, and they will be receiving somebody who can generate swings and misses to strengthen their depth.<\/p>\n

Gray was traded due in large part to his contract, which expires at the end of the season. The 36-year-old right-hander went 14-8 with a 4.28 ERA in 32 starts in his final season in St. Louis.<\/p>\n

The first trade the Cardinals made last offseason is finally complete. The focus will likely remain on building for the future and accumulating as much young talent as possible.<\/p>\n
