We may have just witnessed the greatest defensive performance in recent MLB history.<\/a> An outfielder robbing the opposing team of a home run is amazing, but it is ultimately not that uncommon. Two robberies in a day is already an incredibly rare feat that only a handful of defenders have been able to do. However, Los Angeles Angels<\/a> outfielder Jo Adell defied the odds and made not one, not two, but three defensive highlights in one day.<\/p>\n

Against the Seattle Mariners yesterday, Adell had the game of his life, robbing the Mariners of three home runs in a single day. The once-underrated defensive outfielder is now the talk of the town. In a recent interview, the Angels outfielder talked about that performance. Adell admitted that after making the third catch in the ninth inning, he had already blacked out.<\/p>\n

Adell’s first home run robbery<\/a> was in the first inning. Mariners catcher and 2025 MVP runner-up Cal Raleigh sent a ball to deep left field that seemed destined to go yard. The Angels outfielder, though, wasn’t letting that one go. Displaying incredible defensive instincts and ball-tracking, Adell chased the ball to the short fence and plucked it out of the air.<\/p>\n

Adell’s next magic trick would come all the way in the eighth inning. At that time, the Angels are already holding a one-run lead and are trying to protect it from the fierce Mariners offense. Josh Naylor once again sent the ball flying to the outfield. Once again, it was Adell to the rescue, making a picture-perfect recreation of his first-inning heroics to rob Seattle of another home run.<\/p>\n

The best was yet to come for Adell, though. The Angels held on to the one-run lead in the top of the ninth inning, and shortstop JP Crawford was up to bat. When Crawford sent the ball flying to the deep left corner of the outfield, it looked like Los Angeles needed to put away the Mariners in the bottom of the ninth. However, Adell came flying in, catching the ball just before it landed in the stands, falling over the short fence in the process. After a quick review, the call was confirmed: Crawford was out, and the Angels held on for the win.<\/p>\n

A former Gold Glove finalist in 2024, Adell’s performance slightly tapered off in 2025. This season, it seems like the Angels’ left outfield is a no-fly zone again.<\/p>\n
