He knows it\u2019s a mistake now,\u201d Vitello said. \u201cIt\u2019s just very different when you\u2019re on the field\u2026things are happening, you\u2019re wanting to do well.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Vitello dismissed the idea that an apology was necessary, emphasizing that the game moves too quickly to linger on past errors. \u201cThere\u2019s no sense in apologizing. It\u2019s over with. It\u2019s what you did,\u201d he said. \u201cIf you\u2019re gonna apologize for things, you shouldn\u2019t do them on the field.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Instead, the emphasis is on avoiding repetition.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThe biggest thing is just to not repeat those mistakes,\u201d Vitello added. \u201cIt\u2019d be criminal\u2026 for either he or anyone else to make the same mistakes.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Advertisement<\/p>\n<p>Vitello also pushed back on the idea that the mistake came from confusion or miscommunication.<\/p>\n<p>Video courtesy of NBC Sports Bay Area<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThere was no missed sign\u2026 he just was trying,\u201d Vitello said, acknowledging that overexertion in competitive moments can sometimes backfire. \u201cWhen you\u2019re trying to win games as hard as possible, sometimes it actually contradicts what your end goal is.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Vitello pointed to a pattern within his club, noting that emotional or intense moments have often sparked better play. \u201cWe\u2019ve played our best three games following,\u201d he said. \u201cOur guys have kind of let loose a little bit\u2026 said what they think\u2026 as opposed to being a little too careful.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Advertisement<\/p>\n<p>That openness ties directly into leadership.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cHe\u2019s a leader on our team,\u201d Vitello said. \u201cIf somebody needs to speak up, it needs to be\u2026 those guys first.\u201d Still, he welcomed accountability across the roster, adding, \u201cWe\u2019d rather guys speak out too much than not enough.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>When discussing momentum, Vitello acknowledged its presence but questioned its reliability. \u201cYou can\u2019t touch it, you can\u2019t feel it\u2026 you can\u2019t really coach it,\u201d he said. \u201cIf you\u2019re relying on momentum\u2026you might be spinning your wheels.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Ultimately, his message remains grounded in fundamentals. \u201cThe biggest thing is to go out and play ball the way that you\u2019re supposed to,\u201d Vitello said. \u201cFundamentally sound\u2026 and unapologetically.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Advertisement<\/p>\n<p>With a new series set to begin, Vitello believes any shift can happen quickly. \u201cMomentum changes immediately,\u201d he said. \u201cIt\u2019s a new series\u2026 a matter of doing a couple things right.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Don&#8217;t miss out on our ROUNDTABLE community and the latest news!<\/p>\n<p>It&#8217;s completely free to join.
