(Antonio Perez\/Chicago Tribune)<\/p>\n<p>1924: Postal clerk <a href=\"https:\/\/www.chicagotribune.com\/2024\/06\/09\/countrys-first-documented-gay-rights-organization-started-100-years-ago-in-old-town\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Henry Gerber<\/a> formed the Society for Human Rights, but was soon arrested for being gay.<\/p>\n<p>Gerber was never convicted, but the publicity (including a newspaper headline reading \u201cStrange Sex Cult Exposed\u201d) led to his firing for conduct unbecoming of a postal worker. The group he began quickly disbanded.<\/p>\n<p>In 2015, Gerber\u2019s home at 1710 N. (Don Casper\/Chicago Tribune)<\/p>\n<p>1970: Organist Nancy Faust <a href=\"https:\/\/chicagotribune.newspapers.com\/article\/chicago-tribune-nancy-faust-to-play-at-c\/169587834\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">debuted<\/a> at Comiskey Park. Faust, who played tunes by ear without the use of sheet music, remained a mainstay at Chicago White Sox home games for 41 seasons. She also played organ for other professional sports teams, including the Chicago Bulls from 1977 to 1984 and the Chicago Blackhawks from 1984 to 1988.<\/p>\n<p>A <a href=\"https:\/\/www.chicagotribune.com\/2016\/11\/09\/column-my-encounter-with-nancy-faust-longtime-white-sox-organist\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">commemorative plaque<\/a> at The Rate states Faust entertained fans during thousands of games, being credited as the first sports organist to \u201cincorporate popular and rock themes \u2014 including her trademark rendition of \u201cNa Na Hey Hey (Kiss Him Goodbye)\u201d into performances.\u201d<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"lazyautosizes lazyload\" alt=\"Harry Caray (standing in foreground), White Sox broadcaster in the center field stands at White Sox Park, 8-16-72.
