The St Louis Cardinals bullpen allowed six runs in the eighth inning, unable to take advantage of a late rally as the Cardinals fell to the Washington Nationals 9-6 on Monday, Apr. 6 in DC.<\/p>\n
Washington tagged Andre Pallante early when a Daylen Lile ground-out allowed James Wood to score in the first inning, followed by an RBI single by Nasim Nu\u00f1ez. Those turned out to be the only runs Pallante would allow in his start, going five innings and allowing a total of three hits and four walks while striking out a pair. The Cardinals would take Pallante off the hook when Alec Burleson scored Thomas Saggese in the fifth with a groundout of his own, then Ram\u00f3n Ur\u00edas gave the Cardinals the lead with a two-run homer to center field the following inning. The Nationals tied the game back up with a double by Jacob Young in the home half of the sixth.<\/p>\n
The Cardinals staged a rally in the eighth, retaking the lead with a solo home run by Jordan Walker. Ur\u00edas doubled home Masyn Winn, then scored on a sacrifice fly by Victor Scott II. However, the Cardinal bullpen could not keep the lead, as Ryne Stanek allowed two one-out singles before giving up a home run to James Wood that tied up the game. Matt Svanson was called into the game, who promptly gave up a double to Curtis Mead and then the go-ahead home run to Brady House. He struck out Lile, but then allowed the inning\u2019s third home run to CJ Abrams.<\/p>\n
Svanson took the loss, allowing three runs on three hits and one strikeout. Cionel P\u00e9rez allowed one hit but closed out the ninth to claim the win for Washington.<\/p>\n
The Cardinals sit at 5-5 and will have Matthew Liberatore on the mound Tuesday evening against Cade Cavalli.
