{"id":668471,"date":"2026-04-07T14:13:37","date_gmt":"2026-04-07T14:13:37","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.rawchili.com\/mlb\/668471\/"},"modified":"2026-04-07T14:13:37","modified_gmt":"2026-04-07T14:13:37","slug":"seattle-mariners-cal-raleigh-blasts-1st-home-run-of-season","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.rawchili.com\/mlb\/668471\/","title":{"rendered":"Seattle Mariners&#8217; Cal Raleigh blasts 1st home run of season"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Cal Raleigh has his first home run of 2026.<\/p>\n<p>The Seattle Mariners star catcher went deep off five-time All-Star right-hander Jacob deGrom, clobbering a 418-foot solo shot into the right-field seats at Globe Life Park in the first inning of Monday night\u2019s series opener against the Texas Rangers.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/sports.mynorthwest.com\/mlb\/seattle-mariners\/donovan-back-in-lineup-seattle-mariners-series-opener-rangers\/1844918\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Donovan back in lineup for Mariners\u2019 series opener vs Rangers<\/a><\/p>\n<p>Raleigh\u2019s homer came on the 12th pitch of the at-bat, which was <a href=\"https:\/\/x.com\/MarinersPR\/status\/2041310411086254505\" rel=\"nofollow\">tied for the second-longest at-bat to end in a home run in Mariners history<\/a>. Ra\u00fal Iba\u00f1ez homered in a 13-pitch at-bat against the Chicago White Sox in 2013, while Mike Cameron went deep in a 12-pitch at-bat against the Boston Red Sox in 2000.<\/p>\n<p>Raleigh worked a 3-2 count and then fouled off three straight pitches before barreling up a 99.1 mph four-seam fastball that deGrom left over the heart of the plate.<\/p>\n<p>It was the longest at-bat of deGrom\u2019s 13-year career to end in a hit, <a href=\"https:\/\/x.com\/SlangsOnSports\/status\/2041311257257554366\" rel=\"nofollow\">according to MLB researcher Sarah Langs<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p dir=\"ltr\" lang=\"en\">Absolutely dumped. <a href=\"https:\/\/t.co\/9tluVHdqMx\" rel=\"nofollow\">pic.twitter.com\/9tluVHdqMx<\/a><\/p>\n<p>\u2014 Seattle Mariners (@Mariners) <a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/Mariners\/status\/2041309203529367738?ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener nofollow\">April 7, 2026<\/a><\/p>\n<p>After his <a href=\"https:\/\/sports.mynorthwest.com\/mlb\/seattle-mariners\/seattle-mariners-cal-raleigh-al-mvp-2nd-behind-yankees-aaron-judge\/1828995\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">historic 60-homer campaign<\/a> last year, Raleigh was off to a slow start this season. Entering Monday, he was batting just .132 with two doubles and 20 strikeouts in 10 games. He nearly homered on Saturday in Anaheim, but Los Angeles Angels right fielder Jo Adell robbed him with the first of his <a href=\"https:\/\/sports.mynorthwest.com\/mlb\/seattle-mariners\/adell-3-home-run-robberies-mariners-mlb-history\/1844823\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">three home-run-robbing catches<\/a> that night.<\/p>\n<p>But on Monday night, Raleigh left no doubt.<\/p>\n<p>Last summer, Raleigh rewrote the record books while becoming just the seventh player in MLB history to reach 60 home runs in a season.<\/p>\n<p>Raleigh broke the Mariners\u2019 single-season home run record, surpassing Ken Griffey Jr.\u2019s mark of 56 in 1997 and 1998. He broke the MLB single-season record for most homers by a switch-hitter, surpassing Mickey Mantle\u2019s 54 in 1961.
