Mandatory Credit: Jayne Kamin-Oncea-Imagn Images

Turns out, Andrew Painter is human.

The rookie was chased after allowing 4 runs in 4 innings Monday night, but his teammates picked him up, rallying for a 6-4 win at San Francisco. The Phillies’ bullpen played the role of hero, striking out 6 and allowing just 2 hits over the remaining 5 scoreless innings. If you don’t think that’s noteworthy, consider this: Only twice last season did the bullpen throw 5 consecutive shutout innings. Jhoan Duran closed it out and picked up his 4th save. Can we keep running that back?

Tonight, the Phils turn to ace Cristopher Sanchez (1-0, 0.79). Even better, Sanchez is 2-0 with a 1.46 ERA in 3 career starts vs. the Giants. Robbie Ray (1-1, 3.38) is the best the Giants have. Ray is 4-2 vs. the Phillies in 10 starts, but they’ve touched him up. His career ERA is 5.20.

First pitch is set for 9:45 pm, ET, from Oracle Park.

Can the Phillies stay hot and extend the Giants’ losing streak to 5? Let’s break it down and offer the best bets.

Cristopher Sanchez vs Giants

GSIPERAW-LHHRBBSOOppAVGOppOPS324.21.462-0181733.191.510

Giants Hitters vs Cristopher Sánchez

PlayerABHHRRBIBBSOAVGOPSLuis Arraez1200002.000.000Willy Adames1020023.200.633Heliot Ramos920003.222.556Matt Chapman841312.5001.556Harrison Bader620021.333.833Rafael Devers840001.5001.250Casey Schmitt510013.200.533Christian Koss310002.333.667Jung Hoo Lee310001.333.667Patrick Bailey300000.000.000

Robbie Ray vs Phillies

GSIPERAW-LHHRBBSOOppAVGOppOPS1053.25.204-25992775.274.818

Phillies Hitters vs Robbie Ray

PlayerABHHRRBIBBSOAVGOPSTrea Turner2350107.217.478Bryce Harper1562443.4001.393Alec Bohm1140133.364.864J.T. Betting on the Giants to keep things competitive right now is a fool’s errand. The true vig-free probability gives the Phillies a 58.63% chance to win outright compared to the home team’s 41.37% (totaling 100.00%).

Back the moneyline if you want safety.

Prediction site Kalshi has Phillies to win trading for $0.60 per contract, which equates to -150 odds. That’s a better value than you’ll find at sportsbooks.

Runline Pick: Phillies -1.5 (+120 at BetMGM)

At +120 odds, taking the Phillies to cover the run line is an absolute gift.

Why? The home offense at Oracle Park is a full-blown tragedy. I wouldn’t trust their lineup to hit water if they fell out of a boat retrieving a Schwarbomb in McCovey’s Cove. They are staggering to 2.12 runs per game at home, paired with a dreadful .204 batting average and a .526 OPS.

Phillies Player Prop Picks

After correctly calling Harper and Schwarber homers last week, our home run heater ended last night (which means Bryson Stott probably will leave the yard twice tonight just to remind us how humbling this game is). Scanning the prop market, here’s what we like tonight:

Best Player Prop: Cristopher Sánchez to Record a Win – Yes (-115 at DraftKings)

Given the Giants’ stagnant run production and Sánchez’s blistering start, backing the Phillies’ starter to pitch deep enough with a lead to earn the decision offers tremendous situational value.

If you’re feeling a bit more daring, there’s also this:

Cristopher Sánchez 7+ Strikeouts (+106 DraftKings): In addition to striking out on the Stott HR prop, we also whiffed on predicting a big strikeout night for Painter last night, too. No matter. Our confidence in (most of) this staff is unwavering.

Sánchez is averaging 13.50 strikeouts per nine innings. Accompanied by a 0.794 ERA and an opponent batting average of just .171, he isn’t just pitching well; he’s tossing pure, unadulterated filth. Combine a pitcher possessing swing-and-miss stuff with a lineup that regularly looks like they are swinging underwater, and backing the over is the easiest decision of the night. He’s going to carve through the order with zero remorse, extend the Phillies’ winning streak and push them 3 games over .500 for the first time this season.

Chris Wright is a 30-time APSE award-winning MLB, NBA and college editor with previous stints at the Tampa Bay Times, Miami Herald, The Indianapolis Star and News & Observer.
