KERRVILLE, Texas – The Texas Rangers are joining in the investigation into the tragic floods that left 27 people dead and how they were handled.<\/p>\n
In a statement, the Texas Department of State Health Services has requested help from the Texas Department of Public Safety and the Texas Rangers to assist in an investigation \u201cregarding complaints of neglect by Camp Mystic\u201d during the July 2025 floods.<\/p>\n
DSHS said it has been receiving complaints for months. \u201cSince early February, the Texas Department of State Health Services has received hundreds of complaints regarding Camp Mystic\u2019s operations in the summer of 2025,\u201d the agency said in a statement.<\/p>\n
DSHS said it is investigating \u201calleged violations of the Texas laws governing youth camps\u201d and that it asked DPS to assist \u201cwith investigating allegations concerning the camp\u2019s operations.\u201d The agency added, \u201cDSHS will consider any relevant information shared with the agency as part of its ongoing investigation.\u201d<\/p>\n
In an earlier statement from early March, DSHS provided more detail about the volume and nature of messages it had received about the camp\u2019s license renewal.<\/p>\n
A spokesperson said, \u201cWe\u2019ve received 228 emails asking that the camp\u2019s license not be renewed. However, some of them don\u2019t contain specific complaints for DSHS to investigate. Of those 228 emails, 147 of them cite possible rule violations.
