Triston Casas didn\u2019t open the 2026 season on the Red Sox\u2019 roster.<\/p>\n

And, the 26-year-old infielder \u2014 working his way back from a torn left patellar tendon that ended his 2025 season last May \u2014 doesn\u2019t seem very close to a return this season.<\/p>\n

\u200bCasas, already rehabbing that knee injury down in Florida, has had his recovery stalled over the last week due to a rib muscle strain.<\/p>\n

After being shut down for about a week, Casas was expected to resume hitting on Monday to see how the ailing muscle injury responded to treatment.<\/p>\n

\u200bSpeaking ahead of Tuesday\u2019s home game against the Brewers, Red Sox manager Alex Cora had a discouraging update.<\/p>\n

\u201cCasas tried to swing. It didn\u2019t go well,\u201d Cora said, per MassLive\u2019s Chris Cotillo<\/a>. \u201cHe\u2019s going to go for imaging this week. I don\u2019t know when. That\u2019s where we\u2019re at.\u201d<\/p>\n

Injuries continue to pile up for Casas, who was once looking like Boston\u2019s franchise first baseman after a breakout season with Boston in 2023.<\/p>\n

But, after slugging 24 home runs and driving in 65 runs across 132 games that season, Casas has only appeared in 92 games since the start of the 2024 campaign.\u200b<\/p>\n

That knee injury suffered last May has been the most sizable setback over the last few seasons for Casas, but he was hampered for more than 60 games during the 2024 campaign after tearing cartilage in his rib cage off a hard swing against Pittsburgh in April 2024.<\/p>\n

Even though Boston acquired Willson Contreras this past winter as a replacement for Casas at first base, getting Casas healthy and back up in the big leagues would have been a welcome sight for a Red Sox lineup that could use his pop at the plate \u2014 even if utilized in a bench role or as part of rotation at the DH spot.<\/p>\n

Instead, the waiting game continues for Casas as he tries to put several injury woes behind him.<\/p>\n
