The Cardinals scored five runs against the Nationals\u2019 scuffling bullpen, which entered the day ranked 28th in the majors with a 6.34 ERA.<\/p>\n<p class=\"text | article-text\">James Wood homered for a third consecutive game for the first time in his career for Washington, which has dropped six of seven.<\/p>\n<p class=\"text | article-text\"><a href=\"https:\/\/x.com\/Cardinals\/status\/2041696312869970322?s=20\" rel=\"nofollow\">Saggese laced Cole Henry\u2019s sweeper<\/a> to center to score automatic runner Masyn Winn to lead off the 10th. Three batters later, <a href=\"https:\/\/x.com\/Cardinals\/status\/2041697683342033120?s=20\" rel=\"nofollow\">JJ Wetherholt doubled to right<\/a> off Henry (0-2) to score Saggese.<\/p>\n<p class=\"text | article-text\">George Soriano (1-0) pitched two scoreless innings. Riley O\u2019Brien allowed automatic runner Daylen Lile to score on a wild pitch but struck out Nasim Nu\u00f1ez on the next pitch to earn his third save.<\/p>\n<p class=\"text | article-text\"><a href=\"https:\/\/x.com\/Cardinals\/status\/2041685051474120765?s=20\" rel=\"nofollow\">Walker\u2019s solo shot<\/a> off PJ Poulin in the seventh pulled the Cardinals within 5-3. Nationals reliever Gus Varland nearly worked around a leadoff walk in the eighth, but Church ripped a 1-2 <a href=\"https:\/\/x.com\/Cardinals\/status\/2041689825359601878?s=20\" rel=\"nofollow\">slider into the Washington bullpen<\/a> in right to tie it.<\/p>\n<p class=\"text | article-text\">It was Church\u2019s first extra-base hit in 27 at-bats. He entered the game with a .115 average and a .264 OPS.<\/p>\n<p class=\"text | article-text\">Wood scored on Lile\u2019s RBI single in the first, then led off the third with <a href=\"https:\/\/x.com\/Nationals\/status\/2041662900960375293?s=20\" rel=\"nofollow\">an opposite-field blast into the visitor\u2019s bullpen<\/a> in left to tie it at 2-all.<\/p>\n<p class=\"text | article-text\">Curtis Mead gave the Nationals the lead with a one-out shot to left-center in the fifth, and CJ Abrams made it 4-2 with a run-scoring single to right. Mead added an RBI single in the sixth.<\/p>\n<p class=\"text | article-text\">Nationals starter Cade Cavalli allowed two runs in 4 2\/3 innings.
