Seconds passed, and Atlanta Braves<\/a> pitcher Reynaldo Lopez and Los Angeles Angels<\/a> outfielder Jorge Soler continued\u00a0staring at\u00a0each other down.\u00a0\u00a0<\/p>\n

Lopez finally opened his arms and appeared to say something. \u00a0\u00a0<\/p>\n

Whatever was said Tuesday night, Soler objected and charged the pitching mound, throwing several punches. Lopez,\u00a0attempting\u00a0to defend himself while still holding the baseball, mostly\u00a0backpeddled\u00a0until players from both sides converged to create a melee<\/a> at Angel Stadium.\u00a0\u00a0<\/p>\n

Angels\u00a0outfielder Mike Trout eventually bearhugged Lopez during the fisticuffs and cleared him out of the way. \u00a0\u00a0<\/p>\n

Both Lopez and Soler were\u00a0ejected\u00a0from the contest.\u00a0\u00a0<\/p>\n

Braves, Angles engage in benches-clearing brawl\u00a0\u00a0<\/p>\n

Here\u2019s\u00a0the pre-brawl setup. \u00a0\u00a0<\/p>\n

With the Braves leading 4-2 in the fifth inning, Soler, who homered earlier off Lopez, approached the batter\u2019s box with a runner on second base and two outs.\u00a0\u00a0<\/p>\n

Lopez\u2019s first pitch was a 97-mph fastball, which soared head level, past catcher Jonah Heim and to the backstop. The optics\u00a0weren\u2019t\u00a0good. \u00a0\u00a0<\/p>\n

Soler stepped out of the box and looked directly at his former teammate with the Braves.\u00a0\u00a0<\/p>\n

Lopez peered back for a few seconds before delivering inflammatory words, igniting a brawl. Several punches were thrown, but few, if any, appeared to land.\u00a0\u00a0<\/p>\n
