Neither team scored through three innings, but Penn State DuBois got a spark from a solo home run over the scoreboard by Natalie Bowser in the top of the fourth, then scored another in the fifth and four in the sixth to take a 6-0 lead.

Allegany clawed back by scoring five runs in the bottom of the sixth to cut the lead to one run, 6-5, and DuBois scored what would prove to be an essential insurance run in the top of the seventh before Allegany got one in the home half for the 7-6 final.

The DuBois offense was powered by Sienna Barnhart, who went 2-for-4, including a grand slam in the sixth inning and a double.

Bowser, who was the pitcher and had a no-hitter going through five innings, also had the fourth-inning home run and added a double.

Theresa Luongo came on in relief with two outs in the sixth, and after a caught-stealing, she sealed the win by pitching the seventh, as well.

In the second game, Penn State DuBois didn’t mess around, jumping all over the home team with five runs in the first and four more in the second. They added one in the third and another five-spot in the fourth en route to the 15-1 win.

Allegany gave the visitors a bit of a scare in the bottom of the first, with the first three batters recording hits while they scored a run, but from there, Luongo — who pitched the complete game — allowed just two more hits and didn’t let another runner cross the plate.

Barnhart had another big game, belting three hits — including a two-run home run in the fourth inning and another double.

Liz Hungiville went 3-for-3 with four RBIs for DuBois, and Jessy Frank had three hits and scored four runs.

In other recent action:

PENN STATE DUBOIS 5,

PENN STATE SCRANTON 0

DUBOIS — Penn State DuBois kicked off a home double-header against Penn State Scranton on Saturday with Luongo shutting out the visitors for a 5-0 victory.

DuBois got its first two runs in the home half of the first, two more in the third and an insurance run in the fifth.

Luongo’s final line was a four-hit shutout with zero walks and three strikeouts.

Kayleigh Detz had a big game for the offense, going 1-for-3 with four RBIs, and Jorja Snyder and Bowser each doubled. Frank, Barnhart, Luongo and Leah Aldous all had one single.

PENN STATE DUBOIS 6,

PENN STATE SCRANTON 4

DUBOIS — In the second game of Saturday’s twin bill, things were a little closer. Neither team scored until DuBois tallied four in the home half of the fourth, but Scranton responded with four in the fifth to tie it.

The home team answered immediately, scoring two in the bottom of the fifth before pitching and defense returned to rule, as neither team scored in the final two innings, giving Dubois a 6-4 victory.

Bowser pitched 3-1/3 innings for DuBois, allowing two hits and walking five, while striking out four. Luongo closed out the game, allowing four runs on four hits and two walks.

Penn State DuBois’s offense was led by Bowser, who tripled and singled and was the only DuBois player with more than one hit.

Seven others recorded singles, though — Frank, Snyder, Barnhart, Detz, Luongo, Paige Miller and Aldous — with Detz driving in a pair of runs.

Penn State DuBois (11-7) is scheduled to play a double-header at Penn State Mont Alto on Friday at 2 p.m. and 4 p.m.

CUMBERLAND, Md. — The Penn State DuBois softball team traveled across state lines on Monday, to the Terrapin…

[2288
2315,2309,5,2316,2323,2314,2317,2313,2325,2413,19,2310,2328,2304,2318,2308,2319,4,2305,2303,2307,2327,2321,185,2324,2350,2311,2312,1039
0":"post-670004","1":"post","2":"type-post","3":"status-publish","4":"format-standard","5":"has-post-thumbnail","7":"category-mlb-postseason","8":"tag-athletic-sports","9":"tag-ball-and-bat-games","10":"tag-baseball","11":"tag-baseball-competitions","12":"tag-baseball-events","13":"tag-baseball-finals","14":"tag-baseball-games","15":"tag-baseball-playoffs-and-champions","16":"tag-baseball-teams","17":"tag-champion-seasons-in-major-league-baseball","18":"tag-major-league-baseball","19":"tag-major-league-baseball-competitions","20":"tag-major-league-baseball-playoffs","21":"tag-major-league-baseball-postseason","22":"tag-major-league-baseball-seasons","23":"tag-major-league-baseball-teams","24":"tag-major-league-baseball-teams-seasons","25":"tag-mlb","26":"tag-mlb-playoffs","27":"tag-mlb-postseason","28":"tag-outdoor-sports","29":"tag-seasons-in-american-sport","30":"tag-seasons-in-baseball","31":"tag-sports","32":"tag-sports-events","33":"tag-strikeout","34":"tag-team-sports","35":"tag-turf-sports","36":"tag-world-series
["GET
