The former Cy Young Award winner (2022) walked <a href=\"https:\/\/www.sportingnews.com\/us\/mlb\/cincinnati-reds\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Cincinnati Reds<\/a> shortstop Elly De La Cruz to put runners on second base and first base with one out.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>The Marlins had a 2-0 lead, and the double play was in order.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>Marlins Manager Clayton McCullough\u00a0<a target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/x.com\/talkinbaseball_\/status\/2041681347635298676?s=46\" rel=\"nofollow\">immediately popped<\/a>\u00a0out of the Marlins dugout and would pull Alcantara from the game. Alcantara was not happy about getting pulled, but respected McCoullough\u2019s decision.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI feel like I deserve to be asked how I feel before getting taken out of the game, at 95 pitches and a righty on deck, but I respect the decision,\u201d Alcantara said\u00a0<a target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/x.com\/isaacazout\/status\/2041697030393745493?s=46\" rel=\"nofollow\">Marlins beat writer Isaac Azout<\/a><\/p>\n<p>The two-time All-Star was attempting to finish his second complete game and shutout of the season. In three starts, he\u2019s 2-0 with a 0.74 ERA and has struck 18 in 24.1 innings.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>Alcantara will be one of the best starting pitchers available at the trade deadline and continues to increase his value with every start. To add to his value, Alcantara is under contract for next season (club options for $21 million).\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>However, a potential work stoppage could threaten the 2027 season, possibly making Alcantara a \u201cfree agent\u201d after this season.
