There was definitely a chill in the air for last night\u2019s Yankees comeback win<\/a> over the A\u2019s, as many fans caught on the broadcast were bundled up for the cold weather. Our own John Griffin was at the game and compared<\/a> getting onto the 4 train after the final out to getting into a sauna. By that time, the RealFeel from Accuweather was in the 20s. Don\u2019t like that!<\/p>\n

The Yankees\u2019 Triple-A and Double-A affiliates didn\u2019t even play due to the cold weather, with both Scranton and Binghamton (where Somerset was playing) electing to push their home openers to later in the week. Who could blame them? Sure, you can play in weather that cold, but for those teams in particular, the home opener is supposed to be a fun, celebratory time! It\u2019s hard to get that same magic when you\u2019re freezing.<\/p>\n

The topic of weather brings us to today\u2019s question. What was the coldest Yankees game you can remember attending? Some candidates that immediately jump to mind as possibilities are the somewhat-infamous 1996 home opener, when Andy Pettitte pitched through the snowflakes \u2026<\/p>\n

\u2026 and Game 1 of the 2009 ALCS against the Angels, when by the end of the night, it was chilly, rainy, and completely understandable for Robinson Can\u00f3 to go for as much warmth as possible.<\/p>\n

I didn\u2019t go to either of these games, so I think my answer is probably Game 5 of the 2012 ALDS against the Orioles. The first-pitch weather was merely brisk, but soon, temperatures dropped and the wind made everything so cold, especially sitting near the top of the upper deck, which is about the only place I could afford for a playoff game right after graduating college. CC Sabathia\u2019s complete-game gem warmed our spirits, anyway.<\/p>\n
