The Chicago Cubs<\/a> knew to acquire the starting pitching upgrade they wanted this offseason, they’d need to give of something of value.<\/p>\n

So far, it’s looking like their offseason trade with the Miami Marlins<\/a> has worked out on both sides.<\/p>\n

The Cubs gave up top-100 prospect Owen Caissie to Miami.<\/p>\n

In return, Edward Cabrera came from the Marlins to Chicago.<\/p>\n

Both are off to sterling starts with their new ballclubs.<\/p>\n

“The centerpiece of the trade that sent Edward Cabrera to the Cubs, Caissie has lived up to his top-prospect label through the Marlins\u2019 first 10 games,” MLB.com’s Mark Feinsand wrote in a new article on Wednesday<\/a>. “He hit two home runs with nine RBIs and a .948 OPS in his first 31 plate appearances of 2026, putting last season\u2019s subpar debut with the Cubs (.568 OPS in 12 games) in the rear-view mirror.”<\/p>\n

The Marlins actually have been under-utilizing Caissie slightly, but if he keeps hitting like that, he’ll develop into a true everyday starter.<\/p>\n

For the Cubs, Cabrera has yet to be scored upon.<\/p>\n

“Cabrera hasn\u2019t allowed a run in his first 11 2\/3 innings with the Cubs, putting him in the same ‘So far, so good’ category as the rest of the players on this list, but Caissie is showing that he could become a staple of Miami\u2019s lineup for years to come,” Feinsand writes.<\/p>\n

That longer club control for Caissie could end up being the difference in who the winner of this deal looks to be long-term.<\/p>\n

For now, though, both sides have to feel good about this trade.<\/p>\n
