The Boston Red Sox<\/a> moved back on track with a 5-0 victory over the Milwaukee Brewers on Wednesday.<\/p>\n

Boston won a series and notched consecutive wins for the first time this season. The Red Sox improved to 4-8 with help from Willson Contreras, who tallied his fifth RBI and sixth run scored of 2026.<\/p>\n

Contreras reflected on the triumph in a post-game interview with NESN’s Jahmai Webster<\/a>.<\/p>\n

“We needed this,” Contreras said. “We needed this win. We needed this series win. We came out last night to play ball. We won last night; we won today. Hopefully we carry this winning streak into the road trip.”<\/p>\n

Contreras has reached base in 11 of 12 games this season after going 1-for-4 with a walk on Wednesday. His on-base percentage actually dropped to .434.<\/p>\n

The 33-year-old explained his plate approach by noting his trust in teammate Wilyer Abreu, who batted behind him in the cleanup spot on Wednesday.<\/p>\n

“I’m not trying to be a hero,” Contreras said. “I’m just trying to have good at-bats and be patient whenever I have to be.”<\/p>\n

Contreras wasn’t the only key veteran Boston acquired from the St. Louis Cardinals this offseason. Sonny Gray ingratiated himself with Red Sox fans by working 6 1\/3 scoreless innings against the Brewers at Fenway Park.<\/p>\n

“It was his best game today yet, and we won,” Contreras said of Gray. “I think he did an amazing job keeping the bullpen fresh as well, and we played great defense behind him.”<\/p>\n

It was quite the eventful series for Contreras, who expressed frustration<\/a> after getting hit by a Brewers pitcher for the 24th time in his career on Monday. He got payback by going 5-for-9 with three walks, a double and a home run in a successful set against a former division rival featuring his younger brother, catcher William Contreras.<\/p>\n

Willson Contreras will return to St. Louis when the Red Sox begin a three-game series against the Cardinals on Friday.<\/p>\n
