The Blue Jays’ sole run crossed while he was on the mound, though, putting an end to a 24.2-inning scoreless run.

Ohtani did extend his on-base streak, though, reaching base with a walk as well as a hit by pitch during the game. His 43-game on-base streak ties Ichiro Suzuki’s 43-game streak in 2009—the longest streak in MLB by a Japanese-born player.

Neither team got on the boar until the third inning, when a one-run double from Jesús Sánchez scored Daulton Varsho, who advanced to second after Will Smith failed to corral a sinker from Ohtani.

<img fetchpriority="high" decoding="async" width="1200" height="800" src="https://www.rawchili.com/mlb/wp-content/uploads/2026/04/Shohei-Ohtani-Pitching-Against-Blue-Jays.jpg" alt="Apr 8, 2026; Toronto, Ontario, CAN; Los Angeles Dodgers starting pitcher Shohei Ohtani (17) pitches to the Toronto Blue Jays during the first inning at Rogers Centre. Teoscar Hernandez was the next player to drive in a run, scoring Smith with a sacrifice fly, but the Dodgers failed to further capitalize after having the bases loaded with no outs in the sixth.

Another run crossed in the seventh, when Smith singled to center to score Miguel Rojas—who led off the inning with a walk.

The Blue Jays’ bats woke up in the bottom of the seventh, as a leadoff walk followed by three singles tied the game at three. Blake Treinen entered the game with the game tied, and managed to get out of a jam after walking Vladimir Guerrero Jr.

The Blue Jays scored next, though, as a dropped throw to second base on a steal attempt allowed Davis Schneider to score from third.

LA had a decent chance to tie the game in the top of the ninth, though the top of the lineup couldn’t get the job done and they lost their third game of the season.

The Dodgers get a well-deserved rest day Friday after their six-game road trip, and will travel back to LA to face the Texas Rangers on Friday.
