Getty Images<\/p>\n<p>The injury marks the latest setback in what has been a precipitous fall since a career season with the Bombers four years ago.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>After <a href=\"https:\/\/nypost.com\/2022\/04\/02\/yankees-trade-for-ex-rangers-catcher-jose-trevino\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">coming over to the Yankees from the Rangers<\/a> in a deal for right-hander Albert Abreu and minor league lefty Robert Ahlstrom before the 2022 season, Trevino immediately made a major impact.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>The framer extraordinaire took over the starting catcher job from Kyle Higashioka and made the most of it, making the American League All-Star team.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>Trevino\u2019s prowess behind the plate earned him the AL Gold and Platinum Glove awards as the best defensive player in the league at the catching position.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>His good times with the Yankees would end that season.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>In 2023, Trevino was limited to just 55 games thanks to a wrist injury, and his already below-average effort at the plate took a big step back, as he slashed .210\/.257\/.312 with four home runs in 168 plate appearances.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p><img style=\"aspect-ratio:1.49926794;display:block\" loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" data-modal-image=\"39029419\" width=\"885\" height=\"590\" src=\"https:\/\/www.rawchili.com\/mlb\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/04\/GettyImages-2232302514.jpg\" alt=\"Jose Trevino #35 of the Cincinnati Reds looks on during the first inning against the Los Angeles Dodgers at Dodger Stadium on August 25, 2025 in Los Angeles, California.\" class=\"wp-image-39029419\"  \/>Jose Trevino of the Cincinnati Reds looks on during the first inning against the Los Angeles Dodgers at Dodger Stadium on August 25, 2025 in Los Angeles, California.
