And they called him out?\u201d McLain said. \u201cThat\u2019s good, I guess.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>For a while anyway. At least when it came to their pursuit of the record books.<\/p>\n<p>Their streak of remarkably clean baseball during this hot start was intact either way.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cIt\u2019s a huge part of the game,\u201d said outfielder-infielder Spencer Steer, a Gold Glove finalist at first base last year. \u201cJust with how many close games we\u2019ve played already, sometimes that\u2019s the difference. One mistake could cost you a game.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>The Reds were the lowest-scoring team in the majors through 11 games but were tied for the third-best record. It\u2019s also too early in the season to draw any conclusions about how this will play out long-term.<\/p>\n<p>But Steer just keeps thinking about the Milwaukee Brewers as the Reds keep winning in early April.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThey had the best record in the big leagues last year, and every time we play them it seems like you have to beat them because they\u2019re not going to beat themselves,\u201d he said of MLB\u2019s\u00a0 top-fielding team. \u201cThat\u2019s what we\u2019ve done a really good job of up to this point.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThat started in spring training with how we went about out business on the defensive side of the ball,\u201d he said. \u201cIt\u2019s a big emphasis with Tito, playing clean baseball and taking care of the baseball.
