It was the first road defeat of the season for a Dodgers team that had been perfect away from home through the opening two weeks.<\/p>\n<p class=\"font-claude-response-body break-words whitespace-normal leading-[1.7]\"><a class=\"underline underline underline-offset-2 decoration-1 decoration-current\/40 hover:decoration-current focus:decoration-current\" href=\"https:\/\/heavy.com\/mlb\/player\/shohei-ohtani\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Shohei Ohtani<\/a> did his part. He threw six innings and allowed just one unearned run on four hits with two strikeouts and a walk. His ERA remains at 0.00 through two starts.<\/p>\n<p class=\"font-claude-response-body break-words whitespace-normal leading-[1.7]\">His scoreless innings streak ended at 25\u2153, but not before he set a new record for the longest such streak by a Japanese-born pitcher in Major League history, surpassing Yu Darvish and Hisashi Iwakuma, who had jointly held the record at 25 innings.<\/p>\n<p class=\"font-claude-response-body break-words whitespace-normal leading-[1.7]\">Before taking the mound, Ohtani drew a leadoff walk in his first plate appearance, pushing his on-base streak to 43 games and pulling even with Ichiro Suzuki for the longest such run by a Japanese-born player in <a class=\"wpil_keyword_link\" href=\"https:\/\/heavy.com\/sports\/mlb\/\" title=\"MLB\" data-wpil-keyword-link=\"linked\" data-wpil-monitor-id=\"219924\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">MLB<\/a> history. After the game, his comments shifted the conversation away from the milestones.<\/p>\n<p>Ohtani Gets Honest About His Body<\/p>\n<p class=\"font-claude-response-body break-words whitespace-normal leading-[1.7]\">Ohtani acknowledged that the road trip wore on him physically.<\/p>\n<p class=\"font-claude-response-body break-words whitespace-normal leading-[1.7]\">\u201cIt didn\u2019t feel that great, you know it\u2019s the end of a long road trip,\u201d <a href=\"https:\/\/x.com\/MLB_comment\/status\/2042008612831367289?s=20\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener external nofollow\">Ohtani said through his translator<\/a>. \u201cSo in that sense, I\u2019m just wanting to make sure that I\u2019m recovering and feeling better.\u201d<\/p>\n<p class=\"font-claude-response-body break-words whitespace-normal leading-[1.7]\">He explained that both his form and physical condition were affected by the fatigue of consecutive road games. Dave Roberts was asked about it afterward and did not hesitate.<\/p>\n<p class=\"font-claude-response-body break-words whitespace-normal leading-[1.7]\">\u201cIf you\u2019re on the other side, you\u2019re trying to rush him as much as possible and treat him like any other pitcher. But the truth is, he\u2019s different.\u201d Roberts said.<\/p>\n<p class=\"font-claude-response-body break-words whitespace-normal leading-[1.7]\">Roberts expanded on the reality of managing a player who hits leadoff and then walks to the mound. Opposing teams want to rush him and treat him like any other pitcher.<\/p>\n<p class=\"font-claude-response-body break-words whitespace-normal leading-[1.7]\">Roberts made it clear that approach does not apply. Ohtani gave them six innings. The offense put runners on in the ninth. But it slipped away for LA.<\/p>\n<p class=\"font-claude-response-body break-words whitespace-normal leading-[1.7]\">The bigger picture still looks right.
