The Port Allegany Gators baseball team is off to a strong start with dominant wins of 21-0 and 10-0 in their first two games.<\/p>\n
The Gators didn\u2019t have to tear the cover off the ball in their first game of the year against Smethport. The Gators capitalized with runners in scoring position and earned 19 RBIs off just nine hits. Smethport allowed 14 walks and gave the Gators ample opportunities to score in bunches.<\/p>\n
Port Allegany held a 7-0 lead after two innings. The Gators tacked on four more runs in the fourth inning and then blew the game wide open with a 10-run fifth inning. Nick Wilfong was 3-3 at the plate with four RBIs and four runs scored. Chase Boyd had two hits and matched Wilfong with four RBIs. Aiden Bliss knocked in three on a 1-3 night at the plate.<\/p>\n
Wilfong struck out six in three innings on the mound. Kellen Veilleux had three strikeouts in one inning of work. Liam Hawver collected two Ks for the Gators.<\/p>\n
In their second game of the season, the Gators held a 1-0 lead until a four-run fourth inning allowed them to take a commanding 5-0 lead.<\/p>\n
Port Allegany added another three runs in the fifth and cruised to a 10-run victory in six innings. Wilfong led the Gators with six shutout innings as he recorded his second win of the season.<\/p>\n
Wilfong struck out eight batters and allowed three walks and two hits. Wilfong averaged just 3.5 pitches per batter in the Gators\u2019 victory.<\/p>\n
The Gators will look to make it a 3-0 start when they hit the diamond again to face Northern Potter on Friday, April 10.
