The Cincinnati Reds<\/a> may have not had the best Thursday in Miami, but it was a special day for young slugger Sal Stewart.<\/p>\n

He’s from Miami, and the current baseball team from his high school alma mater was in attendance. When Stewart launched a home run deep to centerfield, that group erupted with joy in the stands.<\/p>\n

The home run also continued an immense start to the season for Stewart. He now has four home runs, three stolen bases, nine RBI and a .364 batting average. His OPS is an even 1.200.<\/p>\n

It’s the highest OPS 13 games into the season for a Reds player 22-or-younger since Jay Bruce in 2008, according to statistician @JayHayKid on X<\/a>.<\/p>\n

Is that quite the specific stat? Yes.<\/p>\n

Does it still have meaning? Also yes.<\/p>\n

Stewart hit well in his initial exposure to the big leagues at the end of last season, but the 2026 campaign is brand new. He was installed into the everyday lineup as the cleanup hitter immediately. A lot of the Reds’ hitting successes would depend on him.<\/p>\n

It would’ve been easy for Stewart to press early and get off to a slow start. That’s even more true back home, where he had lots of people in the stadium to watch him.<\/p>\n

But so far, Stewart’s heart rate has been slow, and his bat has been quick. He looks comfortable in the heart of the lineup and already looks like a long-term star for the Reds.<\/p>\n

Cincinnati needed more pop in its order, and Stewart has been happy to provide it.<\/p>\n
