The Cincinnati Reds<\/a> lost 8-1 to the Miami Marlins on Thursday, but that wasn’t the only news of the day for the team. It revealed its new City Connect 2.0 uniform set before the game, and the squad will debut the threads in Saturday’s home matchup with the Los Angeles Angels.<\/p>\n

Reds senior vice president of brand and content Ralph Mitchell explained the design<\/a>, which is a bright red jersey, pants, and cap along with a white “C” logo, via MLB.com’s Mark Sheldon.<\/p>\n

\u201cWe thought all red just makes too much sense,” he said. “Nike sent us every red color swatch in their library, and I\u2019m telling you, there\u2019s five different shades of red in this uniform.\u201d<\/p>\n

The “C” logo, which debuted with the first City Connect uniforms in 2023, is on the chest and cap and has black accents. Mitchell spoke about the thought process behind it.<\/p>\n

“We hadn\u2019t recreated that \u2018C\u2019 logo in over 100 years — not to that extent. We had no interest in recreating another brand extension exercise,” he said. “Hopefully our fans will respond to that. I know the response from our players at Spring Training was very positive. They all really loved it.\u201d<\/p>\n

Cincinnati will wear the City Connect 2.0 uniforms in all Saturday home games for the rest of the season.<\/p>\n

Cincinnati entered its four-game road series against Miami on a three-game winning streak and continued that momentum on Monday and Tuesday. It won 2-0 on Monday and 6-3 in 10 innings on Tuesday, but fell 7-4 on Wednesday before Thursday’s 8-1 blowout.<\/p>\n

Starting pitcher Rhett Lowder coughed up five runs (four earned) on eight hits over 5.1 innings on Thursday, earning his first loss of the season. The Reds’ only run came on a 409-foot solo homer to center by Sal Stewart in the top of the fifth.<\/p>\n

Lowder allowed no earned runs over the first three frames, but gave up a two-run double by Owen Caissie and an RBI single by Javier Sanoja in the fourth before another RBI single by Sanoja in the sixth.<\/p>\n

Cincinnati is now 8-5 heading into its homestand against the Los Angeles Angels and San Francisco Giants. After that, it will hit the road to face the Minnesota Twins and Tampa Bay Rays.<\/p>\n

Right-handed pitcher Corbin Burnes will start for the Reds on Friday against Angels right-hander Jack Kochanowicz. The game will start at 6:45 p.m. ET on Apple TV.<\/p>\n
