That, to me, is what stands out.”

Treinen had an MLB-best 32 holds during the 2021 season, working primarily as the set-up guy for Kenley Jansen, but as the Dodgers transitioned from Craig Kimbrel to Evan Phillips to Tanner Scott and now Edwin Diaz as their primary closers, the eighth-inning set-up role has also become less defined.

“You have to have a clear person for that role, but then you can argue that that person in a higher-leverage spot (in earlier innings) is more valuable,” Dodgers manager Dave Roberts said.

Treinen said he’s ready for any role the Dodgers have to offer.

“I’ve done so many roles in my career, wherever they have me, I want to be the best in baseball at what I do,” he said. “That’s my goal every year.”

INJURY NEWS

Roberts said shortstop Mookie Betts is symptom-free from the oblique injury he suffered on a check swing against the Washington Nationals last Saturday.

“He feels good,” Roberts said.

Roberts also said right-hander Brock Stewart is the furthest along of the handful of pitchers on the injured list. Stewart is recovering from right shoulder surgery last September.

“He’s progressing,” Roberts said. “So, get a couple more (bullpens) and I think he’ll probably go on [a minor-league rehab] assignment.”

HITTING THE GROUND RUNNING

The defending World Series champion Dodgers came into Friday with the best record in baseball at 9-3, the same mark they had through 12 games last season after also winning the World Series the previous fall.

“It’s a compliment to our guys,” Roberts said. “I think people, a lot of times, try to talk about a hangover, but the group, they understand the value of each game and they’re still hungry. And it is good to see how they go about playing each day, regardless of opponent, location, time zone, all that kind of stuff. We go out there to play to win the game.”

ROJAS STILL WITH TEAM

Dodgers utility player Miguel Rojas has decided to remain with the team rather than go on the bereavement list following the sudden death of his father earlier this week.

Rojas learned of his father’s death shortly before a game against the Blue Jays on Tuesday. He did not play that night, but played shortstop the following day in the series finale.

“There’s a lot going on in Venezuela, and a lot of his family is kind of dispersed all over the world, essentially,” Roberts said. “He just feels they’ve got a handle on it down there, so he’s going to stay with us.”

ROTATION SHUFFLE

Tyler Glasnow requested to move up a day in the starting rotation so he could pitch on Friday in the series opener against the Rangers. Fellow right-hander Emmet Sheehan was bumped back a day.

“He’s in a good spot with his delivery, so I think that, sometimes, pitchers would not like to accrue any rust and just kind of get back out there,” Roberts said of Glasnow.

UP NEXT

Rangers (RHP Jack Leiter, 1-0, 2.45 ERA) at Dodgers (RHP Emmet Sheehan, 1-0, 8.00 ERA), Saturday, 6:10 p.m., SportsNet LA, 570 AM

LOS ANGELES — Dodgers reliever Blake Treinen said he never lost confidence during a rocky spring training.
