His stock continues to decline by the year, and another recent injury setback isn’t exactly good news for his future with the team. At some point, Craig Breslow will have to make a decision on what to do with Casas, who once showed promise, but his lack of playing time and injuries in recent seasons may shift the mindset of Boston’s front office.

A recent MLB mock trade idea by SI.com’s Ryan Shea proposes that the Red Sox go ahead and cut ties with Triston Casas and send him to the New York Mets in exchange for RHP Christian Scott and catcher prospect Kevin Parada. Does this deal make sense for the Red Sox? And when should Boston think about making a real decision with Casas?

More MLB on Heavy: Blue Jays Trade Idea Lands Twins’ All-Star Starter for Ernie Clement, and Two Prospects

Red Sox Trade Prediction Cuts Ties with Triston Casas

GettyBOSTON, MASSACHUSETTS – APRIL 23: Triston Casas #36 of the Boston Red Sox rounds the bases after hitting a three-run home run in the eighth inning against the Seattle Mariners at Fenway Park on April 23, 2025 in Boston, Massachusetts. (Photo by Jaiden Tripi/Getty Images)

Shea cites that the Mets might actually be the ones interested in Triston Casas due to their need for a left-handed first baseman:

“Triston Casas would give the New York Mets a left-handed power bat with strong on-base skills, even after a tough 2025. In 29 games, he hit .182 with 3 HR, 11 RBI, and a .580 OPS before his season was cut short by injury. Despite the poor surface stats, his plate discipline and track record suggest bounce-back potential, and a move to the Mets could help stabilize his role and boost his counting stats if he hits in the middle of the order.”

There’s no doubt that Triston Casas has loads of talent, but the Red Sox need to see more production if he’s going to remain in Boston.

And there’s no telling how severe his current injury is, so he’s really just hogging a spot on the roster at this point. It’s a sad case, as many Red Sox fans fell in love with Casas’ charisma and high spirit on the baseball diamond.

More MLB on Heavy: New York Yankees Predicted to Trade Anthony Volpe to Brewers in Latest Mock

Does This Trade Idea Make Sense for Boston?

I’m not the one who makes final decisions in the Red Sox organization (obviously), but it seems like the only reason the Red Sox are holding onto Triston Casas is because of his *potential* power upside IF he’s healthy, which he has not been able to be in recent seasons.

Due to both of those factors, yes, the Red Sox need to think about cutting ties with Casas.

Since 2024, Casas has played in just 92 games.
