Tied with the Rangers with two outs in the bottom of the ninth, Muncy fell behind 0-2 to Rangers reliever Jacob Latz, but teed off on a hanging slider, sending it 4o1 feet and several rows up the right-field bleachers for the Dodgers’ first walk-off win of the season. With the victory, the Dodgers (10-3) have become the first MLB team to record 10 wins this season.

It was the second career three-homer game for Muncy, who also connected on solo shots in the second and fourth innings.

“Any time you hit a home run in a big-league game is special, let alone three,” Muncy said. “It’s the second time I’ve done that. I still think about the first time I did, so it’s just a special night and to get the win on top of it was great.”

DON’T MESS WITH MAX, TEXAS. pic.twitter.com/h3YbuqkRyC

— Los Angeles Dodgers (@Dodgers) April 11, 2026

Muncy’s first homer of the night was a towering shot to right center off Rangers starter Kumar Rocker. It served as his 211th home run as a Dodger, tying Steve Garvey for third all-time in Dodgers franchise history. Muncy tagged Rocker a second time two innings later, this time to the opposite field, to pass Garvey and take sole possession of third place, trailing only Ron Cey (228) and Eric Karros (270).

The significance of the history was not lost on Muncy, who is entering his ninth season as a Dodger and was extended through 2027 just before spring training.

“It means a lot,” Muncy said. “Garvey is one of those guys that is just kind of a Dodger icon, the way he carried himself, the way he played the game, just a model of consistency. … He really embodied what being a Dodger was. And so to pass him, it’s something that’s really, really special to me.”

But the apex of the night came when Muncy ultimately called game. The Rangers scored three times off Dodgers closer Edwin Díaz in the top of the ninth for Díaz’s first blown save of the year, flipping what had been a comfortable lead into a sudden rally situation. But the Dodgers, who have recorded five comeback wins already this year, are quite comfortable playing under pressure. That includes Muncy, who acknowledged the personal allure of having the chance of hitting a third home run, but stressed he wasn’t trying to do so.

“You have a chance to get a third, so, yeah, you want it,” Muncy said. “But at that point in the game, you’re just trying to get on base and then keep the line moving, give us a chance to win, get in scoring position. You can’t go up there with the home run in your head, even though it’s hard not to in that situation. I just tried to put together a good at-bat.”

The first 3-homer game of the season belongs to Max Muncy!

He capped it off in #walkoff fashion! pic.twitter.com/jrNJTDqzH1

— MLB (@MLB) April 11, 2026

Muncy, 35, has stated before that issues stemming from a freak elbow injury in 2021 had stunted his swing. He especially struggled against lefties, hitting a collective .165 from 2022 through 2025. But he believes any lingering pain from that injury is gone, which should allow him to tap into a side of swing he has not been able to utilize consistently in over four seasons. Muncy also lost roughly 17 pounds over the offseason after emphasizing dieting and increasing mobility over the winter.

“I feel great,” Muncy said. “I feel like I’m moving well. … I feel like everything’s moving fluidly and I just feel healthy. That’s kind of the most important thing right now.”

Manager Dave Roberts commended Muncy after the game, saying he felt Muncy had become a more mature hitter.

“He’s checking down better because he has more time to see the baseball,” Roberts said. “His swing’s a little bit shorter. That’s something that we always felt that he had that in him. But I think he’s really bought into that. He even told me about a week ago, he was like, ‘I can see myself hitting .300.’ I believe him.”

Muncy finished the day 4-for-5 with five runs scored and three RBI, and became the first player to record a three-homer game this season. He is the first player to hit three home runs, including a walkoff, since Jack Suwinski did so on June 19, 2022, against the San Francisco Giants.

“It’s a special night,” Muncy said. “The team’s playing good right now. Coming up with a win’s the most important thing.
