The offense was left having to bail him out.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>We saw more controlled at-bats against the Cardinals: strong changeup usage, a potent fastball and only one earned run.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>His last go against <a href=\"https:\/\/nypost.com\/2026\/04\/07\/sports\/mets-use-late-inning-magic-for-walk-off-win-over-diamondbacks\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Arizona was the most frustrating<\/a>. He couldn\u2019t finish hitters and threw 101 pitches for only 14 outs.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>So, which Peralta will we see against the Athletics on Sunday afternoon?<\/p>\n<p>His 4.80 ERA speaks more to command control under pressure than strikeout ability. According to Statcast, Peralta is eliciting whiffs and ground balls at an above average rate and projects a 2.69 xERA.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>The A\u2019s hold the third-highest strikeout clip in MLB per FanGraphs.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>The Mets\u2019 bats have been just as hit-or-miss as Peralta. Getty Images<\/p>\n<p>They\u2019ll contend with Aaron Civale, whose 2.70 ERA also has more than meets the eye. He\u2019s shown steady damage control in his two starts against the Braves and Yankees although he doesn\u2019t deal as much raw stuff as a Peralta. <\/p>\n<p>Civale has only thrown nine strikeouts through 10 innings and uses more of his sequencing and command to get by.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>Learn all you need to know about MLB Betting<\/p>\n<p>The Mets tagged him for seven earned runs in 4 \u2154 innings in his last start against them as a Cub two years ago.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>Are the Mets overlay reliant on Soto?
