Buckeye Maddix Simpson doubled down the left field line, allowing Noah Furcht to score with the bases loaded, before Buckeye Jacob Parr knocked a ball into center field for a two-run homer.

Looking to bring it back, Penn State was able to make some moves in the second, started by a setup from Jayden Davis with a double to right center field, allowing Jack Porter to wait on third before running home off an out on Kevin Karstetter. Davis was able to score another run off an error in the outfield, leaving the score 6-2.

With another two runs in by the Buckeyes in the second, Mike Gambino sent in junior Mason Horwat to take over, a player who had a decent year so far, letting in only one run and throwing a strikeout.

A quiet third inning for both teams was taken over by a home run in the bottom of the fourth for Ohio State, with Dane Harvey launching a homer into center field, leaving the blue and white in a race to catch up with a 7-2 score.

Michael Anderson, one of Penn State’s top hitters, came into the fifth strong after a home run hit into center field. But just as the team started to bring it back, Horwat was relieved by Kyle Emmons just as Ohio State took over, dominating with a powerful grand slam by Henry Kaczmar, followed by another run from Noah Furcht to put the score at 12-3.

Penn State did not hold back going into the sixth as Karstetter singled to third with the bases loaded for Spencer Barnett to run home. Porter and Karstetter were let in off of other hits to pull back 13-6.

The Buckeyes didn’t let up, as the team tacked two more runs on the board off another home run by Parr, marking the team’s third home run of the game. Just before another run would have sent the blue and white home after a mercy rule loss, Ohio State dropped the ball in the bottom of the seventh, leaving Penn State one last chance at a comeback.

Once again with their top hitting lineup, Karstetter set up Davis to run home from third before Cohl Mercado, who has been struggling in the last few games, doubled to right center field for Preston Yaucher and Karstetter to put the team up two more runs, with Anderson finishing it off as Mercado ran home to put the game 15-10.

After a huge win in the first game of the series, 10-6, and a close loss in the second, 3-2, Penn State lost in the bottom of the ninth after a close matchup with the Buckeyes.

Up Next

Penn State will take on West Virginia in a one-game neutral-site face-off this Wednesday, Apr. 15, at 5:30 p.m.

MORE BASEBALL COVERAGE

Penn State Baseball looked to continue its success after securing a victory in its first mat…

If you’re interested in submitting a Letter to the Editor, click here.

Submit

After a tied series in Columbus, Penn State returned for its third and final game in Nick Swisher…

[2288
2309,5,2313,2335,19,2310,2328,2304,2308,4,2305,2303,2307,185,2311,2312
0":"post-674326","1":"post","2":"type-post","3":"status-publish","4":"format-standard","5":"has-post-thumbnail","7":"category-mlb-postseason","8":"tag-ball-and-bat-games","9":"tag-baseball","10":"tag-baseball-playoffs-and-champions","11":"tag-home-run","12":"tag-major-league-baseball","13":"tag-major-league-baseball-competitions","14":"tag-major-league-baseball-playoffs","15":"tag-major-league-baseball-postseason","16":"tag-major-league-baseball-teams","17":"tag-mlb","18":"tag-mlb-playoffs","19":"tag-mlb-postseason","20":"tag-outdoor-sports","21":"tag-sports","22":"tag-team-sports","23":"tag-turf-sports
["GET
