The Marlins\u2019 recent decision rubs salt in the wound of the Miami Hurricanes\u2019 devastating national championship loss to the Indiana Hoosiers, and it was honestly preventable.<\/p>\n

The Miami Hurricanes truly had a magical season in 2025. The team rallied after two one-score losses in the regular season to earn a place in the 2026 College Football Playoffs. And boy did they make the most of it. Sadly, Fernando Mendoza <\/a>and the Indiana Hoosiers<\/a> would make sure they ended their season in heartbreak. <\/p>\n

The Hurricanes\u2019 loss in the national championship doesn\u2019t undo their incredible run. A run that included wins over Texas A&M, , and Ole Miss. However, it certainly isn\u2019t something the team, school, and the fan base are over quite yet. Which makes a recent decision by the Miami Marlins all the crazier. <\/p>\n

Miami Marlins are having former Indiana Hoosiers quarterback Fernando Mendoza throw out the first pitch <\/p>\n

The Marlins will be having Mendoza throw out the first pitch on April 21 against the St. Louis Cardinals. The Marlins do have a good reason for even considering this, though. Mendoza grew up in Miami, so the Marlins likely just want to honor a hometown kid.<\/p>\n

The problem is that the Hurricanes\u2019 loss to Indiana is still fresh on the fan base\u2019s mind. So seeing the quarterback of the team that ultimately cost the school a national championship throw out the first pitch for the city\u2019s MLB team has to feel like a slap in the face. <\/p>\n

Especially when the NFL Draft is set to begin just two days after Mendoza throws out the first pitch. The Marlins could have easily had one of the notable Hurricanes set to hear their name called early in the 2026 NFL Draft. In fact, Rueben Bain Jr., Akheem Mesidor, and Francis Mauigoa are expected to become first-round picks. <\/p>\n

The Marlins instead opted for the Indiana Hoosiers quarterback. The same quarterback who pulled off a gut-wrenching touchdown run that Hurricanes fans will see in their nightmares for the foreseeable future. <\/p>\n
