Detroit Lakes, MN (KDLM) \u2013 The Minnesota Twins dropped the finale of their three-game series with the Boston Red Sox 9-5 on Wednesday afternoon at Target Field, ending a four-game winning streak.<\/p>\n
Boston broke open a scoreless tie in the top of the third inning, sending ten batters to the plate and putting five runs on the board. Trevor Story did the heaviest damage, driving in five runs on the day with a home run and a double. The Red Sox added two more runs in the 5th inning and another pair in the 6th to build a 9-1 lead.<\/p>\n
Twins starter Simeon Woods Richardson took the loss, his third of the season. He went five innings, allowing seven runs (six earned) on ten hits with three walks and three strikeouts.<\/p>\n
Minnesota\u2019s offense managed just two hits through the first eight innings against Boston starter Connelly Early, who picked up the win. The Twins pushed across four runs in the bottom of the 9th to make the final score respectable. Austin Martin and Ryan Kreidler both went deep in the losing effort, with Kreidler\u2019s three-run homer accounting for most of the late rally.<\/p>\n
The Twins finished the day with six hits and committed two errors. Boston pounded out thirteen hits.<\/p>\n
Minnesota remains in first place in the American League Central at 11-and-8.<\/p>\n
The Twins are back in action Friday night when they open a three-game home series against the Cincinnati Reds.
