The Los Angeles Dodgers<\/a> are off to the best start in Major League Baseball this season with a 14-4 record. They just swept the New York Mets<\/a> in a three-game series, are off on Thursday, and will hit the road for a three-game weekend series with the Colorado Rockies<\/a> on Friday.<\/p>\n

Per MLB insider Jon Heyman<\/a>, the Dodgers have acquired right-handed pitcher Chayce McDermott<\/a> from the Baltimore Orioles<\/a>. McDermott was DFA\u2019d by Baltimore last week, and per Jack Harris, who covers the<\/a> Dodgers, Chayce McDermott will join the Dodgers\u2019 Triple-A affiliate, Oklahoma City.<\/p>\n

Los Angeles Dodgers Trade for Chayce McDermott on Thursday<\/p>\n

Chayce McDermott made his Major League Baseball debut in 2024 with the Orioles, and pitched four innings, but surrendered three earned runs.<\/p>\n

Per the Dodgers\u2019 official team announcement,<\/a> the Orioles are receiving RHP Axel Perez as the return pitcher in the trade.<\/p>\n

A standout starter at Ball State, McDermott was drafted in the fourth round of the MLB draft in 2021 by the Houston Astros<\/a>.<\/p>\n

The 27-year-old has amassed 409 total innings in the minors over parts of the last six seasons. He has a career 4.38 ERA in the minors with 568 strikeouts. He has experience as both a starter and a reliever.<\/p>\n

MLB World Reacts to Dodgers-Orioles Trade<\/p>\n

It\u2019s not a blockbuster trade by any means, but the MLB trade between the Dodgers and Orioles is already picking up some reactions across social media:<\/p>\n

@billplunkettocr:<\/a> #Dodgers made another minor-league trade. Acquired RHP Chayce McDermott from the Orioles in exchange for RHP Axel Perez. McDermott goes to Triple-A OKC<\/p>\n

@noahcamras:<\/a> The Dodgers have made a trade, acquiring RHP Chayce McDermott from the Orioles for RHP Axel Perez. McDermott was the Orioles\u2019 top pitching prospect a year ago. He has a high strikeout rate and swing-and-miss stuff. He\u2019s struggled in limited MLB action and was DFA\u2019d last week.<\/p>\n

In 2025, McDermott pitched just 8.2 innings with the Orioles, and he gave up 15 earned runs and three home runs in that sample size.<\/p>\n

@jcalvinmeyer:<\/a>The Orioles are getting back right-handed pitcher Axel Perez, a 20-year-old who spent last season in rookie ball, Baltimore announced. A year ago, Chayce McDermott was the Orioles\u2019 No. 1 pitching prospect. Now he\u2019s a Dodger.<\/p>\n

It will be very interesting to see how Chayce McDermott performs with the Dodgers\u2019 Triple-A squad, and if Los Angeles\u2019s pitching staff and development team in the minor leagues can find something to unlock his potential at the big-league level.<\/p>\n

The Dodgers, very notably, have a loaded pitching staff, but Los Angeles will have to endure some serious injuries if McDermott wants to get another shot in MLB.<\/p>\n
