The New York Mets<\/a> have lost nine straight MLB games and are currently 7-13. That\u2019s good for last place in the National League East.<\/p>\n

The last time the Mets have lost nine games in a row? 2004. That may call for David Stearns and company to head to the external market for necessary changes. One of those moves could be moving on from $75 million starter Kodai Senga.<\/p>\n

Per SI.com\u2019s Ryan Shea<\/a>, the Mets could consider trading away Kodai Senga to the Chicago Cubs<\/a> in a potential trade that would benefit both sides.<\/p>\n

Shea proposes that the Mets would land two prospects, Jostin Florentino and Kane Kepley, in the deal.<\/p>\n

Kodai Senga is off to a rough start, and the Cubs could be in the market for another starting pitcher after losing Cade Horton for the year to Tommy John Surgery.<\/p>\n

Senga has a 7.07 ERA in 14 innings this season, but was an All-Star caliber pitcher in 2023. The 33-year-old right-hander was handed a five-year, $75 million deal before pitching in MLB. Through 55 career starts, Senga\u2019s ERA is 3.19, but that\u2019s a contract New York may want to get rid of, and it could give them financial flexibility to try and add another starter.<\/p>\n

Kodai Senga certainly shouldn\u2019t be safe either.<\/p>\n

It will ultimately be up to David Stearns, but one could speculate that trades will be coming soon if the Mets don\u2019t turn things around, and Kodai Senga might be the first name out the door.<\/p>\n

Shea gives some insight on why the Mets might be okay with making this trade:<\/p>\n

\u201cWith Senga struggling in 2026 (7.07 ERA, 1.71 WHIP), they could view him as a valuable trade chip whose current market value is still strong enough to bring back meaningful prospects before a potential further dip in performance. In that context, moving him for younger, controllable talent like Jostin Florentino and Kane Kepley makes sense, as Florentino offers a developing mid-rotation pitching profile with strikeout ability, while Kepley brings elite on-base skills and speed that can contribute to a future lineup.\u201d<\/p>\n
