TOLEDO, Ohio \u2013 The Toledo baseball team was held off by Miami in its MAC weekend series opener, falling to the RedHawks, 7-2, at Scott Park on Friday.

\nThe Rockets (16-21, 12-7 MAC) took leads of 1-0 and 2-1 early and led after three innings. From there, the RedHawks (24-12, 13-6 MAC) scored in the fourth and fifth innings to take a 3-2 lead and added two more for a 5-2 edge in the seventh. Miami held off Toledo chances to score in the sixth and eighth innings before scoring two more in the ninth. The defeat snapped Toledo’s six-game winning streak in MAC series openers.

\nRedshirt junior Troy Sudbrook<\/a> and junior Charlie Scholvin<\/a> tallied multi-hit games. Friday was Scholvin’s 18th multi-hit game of the season and Sudbrook’s 16th. Scholvin had an RBI double in the third inning, while Sudbrook scored a run.

\nSenior Nathan Leininger<\/a> delivered another quality start, allowing just three runs on seven hits with six strikeouts in six innings pitched. He stranded nine Miami runners on base through his six frames. Leininger was tagged with his first loss of the season (7-1), snapping a stretch of seven-straight starts as the winning pitcher.

\n\tTwo singles and a hit-by-pitch loaded the bases in the first, but Nathan Leininger<\/a> came back for a strikeout to keep Miami off the board.
\n\tSingles by Carson McCaleb<\/a> and Preston Zumwalt<\/a> put runners at the corners with one out in the second, before a successful squeeze play put Toledo ahead, 1-0.
\n\tA single, stolen base and two wild pitches brought home the tying run for Miami in the third.
\n\tWith two outs in the bottom of the third, Troy Sudbrook<\/a> singled and Charlie Scholvin<\/a> brought him home on a double for a 2-1 Toledo lead.
\n\tTwo singles led to a sac fly for Miami in the fourth for a 2-2 tie. The RedHawks then took the lead in the top of the fifth on an RBI groundout.
\n\tToledo put runners on first and second in with no outs the bottom of the sixth, but couldn’t get home the tying or go-ahead run.
\n\tMiami scored twice in the seventh on an RBI single and a fielder’s choice to extend its lead to 5-2.
