{"id":678218,"date":"2026-04-18T08:01:24","date_gmt":"2026-04-18T08:01:24","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.rawchili.com\/mlb\/678218\/"},"modified":"2026-04-18T08:01:24","modified_gmt":"2026-04-18T08:01:24","slug":"perez-pitches-6-strong-innings-for-surging-braves","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.rawchili.com\/mlb\/678218\/","title":{"rendered":"Perez pitches 6 strong innings for surging Braves"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>PHILADELPHIA &#8212; Austin Riley hit a three-run home run in the second inning and another home run in the ninth, Martin Perez pitched six innings and the Atlanta Braves routed the Philadelphia Phillies 9-0 on Friday night.<\/p>\n<p>Dominic Smith and Michael Harris II also homered to help NL East-leading Atlanta improve to 13-7 with its third consecutive victory.<\/p>\n<p>Perez (1-1) was designated for assignment Sunday then signed a minor league deal Wednesday. He limited the Phillies to four hits, and Jose Suarez gave up two hits in the final three innings in picking up his first save.<\/p>\n<p>Phillies starter Taijuan Walker (1-3) allowed seven runs in four innings.<\/p>\n<p>The Braves loaded the bases in the first on leadoff hitter Ronald Acuna Jr.&#8217;s walk, Drake Baldwin&#8217;s single and Matt Olson&#8217;s walk. Ozzie Albies drove in Acuna with a groundout, and Mike Yastrzemski had an infield single off Walker&#8217;s leg to make it 2-0.<\/p>\n<p>Olson had an RBI single in the second, and Walker upped it to 6-0 with two outs with his three-run shot to right-center.<\/p>\n<p>BREWERS 7, MARLINS 5 (10) Garrett Mitchell went 2 for 4 with 3 RBI including a two-run double in the 10th inning and Milwaukee beat Miami. Miami&#8217;s Calvin Faucher (1-2) entered a 4-all game in the 10th and walked Gary Sanchez with Brice Turang on second. Jake Bauers hit a single to load the bases. Luis Rengifo reached first on a throwing error by second baseman Xavier Edwards, allowing Turang to score. Mitchell followed with his double. The Marlins scored one run in the bottom of the 10th when Jakob Marsee came home on Trevor Megill&#8217;s wild pitch. Megill settled in for his fourth save.<\/p>\n<p>DODGERS 7, ROCKIES 1 Max Muncy homered twice, Tyler Glasnow allowed two hits in seven innings and the Los Angeles Dodgers rolled to a win over Colorado in frigid conditions. The Colorado grounds crew had to clear 3 inches of snow from the Coors Field playing surface before the game, which began with temperatures at 36 degrees. But the chilly air didn&#8217;t cool down the major league-best Dodgers (15-4), who have won 11 of 14. Shohei Ohtani went 2 for 5 in his return to the Dodgers&#8217; lineup, extending his career-best on-base streak to 49 games.<\/p>\n<p>GIANTS 10, NATIONALS 5 Heliot Ramos hit a three-run home run, Logan Webb pitched six solid innings and San Francisco beat Washington. Drew Gilbert and Casey Schmitt hit home runs, and Matt Chapman had three hits and drove in three runs for the Giants, who had scored three runs or less in each of their past five games.<\/p>\n<p>AMERICAN LEAGUE<\/p>\n<p>ORIOLES 6, GUARDIANS 4 Jeremiah Jackson&#8217;s three-run home run capped Baltimore&#8217;s six-run outburst in the eighth inning against Cleveland&#8217;s bullpen, sending the Orioles to a win over the Guardians. The Orioles&#8217; rally came after Daniel Schneemann hit a grand slam to give Cleveland a 4-0 lead in the seventh. But Guardians&#8217; reliever Scott Armstrong couldn&#8217;t get an out, giving up two walks and hitting a batter before being pulled. Johnathan Rodriguez&#8217;s sacrifice fly off Erik Sabrowski (0-1) made it 4-1 and pinch hitter Weston Wilson roped a two-run double to get the Orioles within one.<\/p>\n<p>RED SOX 1, TIGERS 0 (10) Pinch-hitter Masataka Yoshida singled over a drawn-in, five-man infield, scoring Jarren Duran from third base with one out in the 10th inning, as Boston beat Detroit, snapping the Tigers&#8217; six-game winning streak. The game featured scoreless starts by Boston&#8217;s Ranger Suarez and Detroit&#8217;s Casey Mize and each team with just four hits.<\/p>\n<p>YANKEES 4, ROYALS 2 Ryan McMahon came off the bench and broke out of his season-long slump with a tiebreaking, two-run home run in the eighth inning as the New York Yankees beat skidding Kansas City. Ben Rice also hit a two-run home run and the Yankees got another strong start from Cam Schlittler in winning their ninth consecutive game against Kansas City, including a playoff series two years ago.<\/p>\n<p>INTERLEAGUE<\/p>\n<p>CARDINALS 9, ASTROS 4 Nolan Gorman hit a three-run home run and Ivan Herrera added a two-run shot to lead St. Louis to a victory over Houston. The Cardinals led by a run with one out in the seventh when Alec Burleson doubled off Bryan Abreu, and Jordan Walker walked. Gorman sent a fastball from Abreu into the seats in right field to make it 7-3. Herrera, who had three RBI, connected off J.P. France with two outs in the eighth. Masyn Winn drove in two runs and Walker extended his hitting streak to 12 games for the Cardinals, who extended their winning streak to three games. St. Louis starter Kyle Leahy (2-2) yielded 5 hits and 3 runs with a season-high 6 strikeouts in 5 innings.<\/p>\n<p>PIRATES 5, RAYS 1 Oneil Cruz hit a two-run home run, Brandon Lowe went 3 for 5 with 2 doubles and 2 RBI, and Pittsburgh beat Tampa Bay to snap the Ray&#8217;s six-game win streak. Bubba Chandler (1-1) allowed a run and three hits over six innings. Mason Montgomery, Gregory Soto and Dennis Santana each pitched an inning of scoreless relief.<\/p>\n<p>REDS 2, TWINS 1 Eugenio Suarez hit a two-run double, Brandon Williamson allowed one run in 5 1\/3 innings and Cincinnati edged Minnesota. Williamson (2-1) gave up 3 hits, struck out 2 and walked 4. Emilio Pagan pitched a 1-2-3 ninth for his sixth save.
