The Detroit Tigers<\/a>\u2019 game against the Boston Red Sox<\/a> on Sunday will start at 4:35 p.m., three hours later than originally scheduled.<\/p>\n

The Red Sox announced the change on Saturday night due to forecasted rain for the early afternoon.<\/p>\n

Although the Tigers will be in Boston through Monday for the four-game series, a doubleheader on the final day would be undesirable or perhaps even impossible because it coincides with the Boston Marathon and Patriots\u2019 Day. Monday\u2019s game is set to start at 11:10 a.m.<\/p>\n

The Tigers beat the Red Sox 4-1 on Saturday<\/a> to even the series at a game apiece.<\/p>\n

Assuming Sunday\u2019s game is played as scheduled, it should be a great pitching matchup. Tigers left-hander Framber Valdez<\/a> (1-1, 3.75 ERA) will face Boston<\/a> lefty Garrett Crochet<\/a> (2-2, 7.58).<\/p>\n

Crochet was the American League Cy Young runner-up to Tarik Skubal<\/a> in 2025 and was seen as his greatest threat to a three-peat in 2026.<\/p>\n

But he\u2019s coming off a miserable outing on April 13 in Minneapolis that could take his ERA a couple of months to recover from.<\/p>\n

Crochet allowed 11 runs (10 earned) on nine hits in 1 2\/3 innings against the Twins. He gave up two home runs, walked three, threw a wild pitch, hit a batter and didn\u2019t record a strikeout.<\/p>\n

Valdez\u2019s last start — seven innings of one-ball on April 14 against the Royals<\/a> — was considerably better, although it was notable that he struck out only one batter.<\/p>\n

Valdez has 21 career innings pitched at Fenway Park and has never surrendered a homer to any of the 86 batters he\u2019s faced.<\/p>\n
