The New York Mets<\/a> have lost 11 straight games in MLB, and fell to 7-15 on Sunday afternoon with a 2-1 loss to the Cubs. New York has scored 19 runs in 11 games since April 7. It\u2019s no doubt one of the worst slides in franchise history, given the expectations and their massive payroll.<\/p>\n

Bob Nightengale wrote recently via<\/a> X: \u201cThe New York Mets\u2019 ugliness continues, this time in a painful 2-1, 10-inning loss to the Cubs with a blown save by Devin Williams in the 9th and a loss by reliever Craig Kimbrel in the 10th. They have lost 11 games in a row. The last time they had a longer losing streak was 2002.\u201d<\/p>\n

Carlos Mendoza also didn\u2019t hold back in his post-game presser.<\/p>\n

Via the SleeperMets X account, Carlos Mendoza<\/a> was asked if he feels like the Mets are running out of time. It\u2019s still April.<\/p>\n

\u201c11 losses, that\u2019s a lot, whether it\u2019s in April or at any point in the season. Nobody\u2019s going to feel sorry for us. We\u2019ve got to find a way.\u201d<\/p>\n

Mendoza was also asked about walking Nico Hoerner intentionally, who recorded the walk-off Sac Fly in the bottom of the ninth inning on Sunday:<\/p>\n

\u201cIn that situation, especially with Hoerner, you put him at first base, they\u2019re going to take second base there.\u201d<\/p>\n

That will surely go over well with the Mets faithful.<\/p>\n

Can Juan Soto Help the Mets Turn Things Around?<\/p>\n

Also in the fray of the postgame media availability, New York Mets star Francisco Lindor was asked if Juan Soto will make a difference once he returns:<\/p>\n

\u201cEven when he comes, we\u2019ve still got to get it done. It would be unfair to just throw everything on him.\u201d<\/p>\n

Juan Soto should return to the lineup next week. Lindor is the honorary scapegoat for this New York Mets team, but there\u2019s a boatload of other talented players in Queens (Freddy Peralta, Bo Bichette, Nolan McLean, and Luis Robert Jr.) who haven\u2019t produced a lick in the losing streak.<\/p>\n

As for Carlos Mendoza\u2019s comments, the rumors are going to start swirling rapidly about his potential firing. David Stears has publicly backed him, but at this point, wholesale changes need to be made. However, it\u2019s important to note that Juan Soto is being paid to essentially carry the franchise until his $750+ million contract runs out.<\/p>\n
