He had driven in only one run all season before the series began.

In the 10th, the Cardinals loaded the bases without a hit on the automatic runner at second, an error and a hit batter before Winn delivered his shot into the left-field corner that drove in all three runners, his third hit of the game.

In the bottom of the inning, Gordon Graceffo relieved with runners on second and third and one out. An infield single produced a run, but with the tying runs on base, a groundout ended the game.

The sweep of the Astros left the Cardinals with a 13-8 record, the first time they have been five games above .500 after the first 21 games of the season since 2018. They also improved to 5-0 in extra innings.

Here is how Sunday’s game broke down:

At the plate: The Cardinals did not have a baserunner against Houston starter Mike Burrows until Winn singled with two outs in the fifth. That was followed by a walk, an infield single by Pedro Pages and a bases-loaded walk to Victor Scott II before JJ Wetherholt’s two-run single knocked Burrows out of the game. Ivan Herrera capped the four-run outburst with an RBI single … Jordan Walker’s double in the eighth extended his hitting streak to 14 games … Jose Fermin led off the ninth with a pinch-hit double but he was left stranded at third base.

On the mound: Matthew Liberatore was pulled after the sixth inning with a 4-1 lead, and 82 pitches. He allowed only three hits, walked two and struck out four. The Cardinals have not had a pitcher go past the sixth inning this season … In the eighth, Romero retired the first two batters before Yordan Alvarez homered and then gave up a single and walk. O’Brien relieved and after a wild pitch, was greeted by a two-run single that tied the game. All the runs were charged to Romero. O’Brien worked a 1-2-3 ninth to send the game to the 10th.

Key stat: Wetherholt was hit by a pitch for the fourth consecutive game, tying the team record. Joe Cunningham, in 1961, and Jon Jay, in 2012, also were hit by a pitch in four games in a row. In the three games in Houston, the Cardinals were hit by a pitch six times and five of those runners came around to score.

Worth noting: This was the first time in the last 10 games that the Cardinals did not hit at least one home run at Daikin Field, a streak that dated back to 2013 … After two rough starts to begin the season, top pitching prospect Liam Doyle allowed only one run over four innings for Springfield at Wichita. He only gave up two hits, walked one and struck out five … Pitching at Memphis, Hunter Dobbins made another rehab start and worked 3 1/3 innings, allowing three runs.

Up next: The road trip continues on Monday night with the first of three games against the Marlins in Miami. Michael McGreevy will get the start.

Masyn Winn hit a go-ahead three-run double in the 10th inning as St. Louis beat Houston 7-5 Sunday…

[2403
5,160,4,673,67,4311,4310
0":"post-679620","1":"post","2":"type-post","3":"status-publish","4":"format-standard","5":"has-post-thumbnail","7":"category-st-louis-cardinals","8":"tag-baseball","9":"tag-cardinals","10":"tag-mlb","11":"tag-st-louis","12":"tag-st-louis-cardinals","13":"tag-stlouis","14":"tag-stlouiscardinals
["GET
