The Braves are 13-8 and riding a five-game streak with scoring lines of 4, 3, 9, 6, and 6, a run that has pushed them to 122 runs and 29 home runs through 22 games. Washington is 10-12 and 7-7 at home, competitive but uneven, and the environment tonight sets up as a test of whether that steadiness can hold against a lineup that is stacking quality at-bats from top to bottom. Below is my preview, prediction, and pick for today’s baseball game between the Washington Nationals and the Atlanta Braves.

Here’s how I’ll play it. I’ll be pumping out these predictions for individual games all season, with plenty of coverage here on DraftKings Network. Follow my handle @dansby_edits for more betting plays.

Jake Irvin has not been able to keep damage off the board: 6.16 ERA, 1.47 WHIP, 21 strikeouts and 11 walks in 19.0 innings, backed by a 48.1% hard-hit rate, 14.8% barrel rate, and .355 xwOBA allowed. Opponents are averaging nearly 90 mph off the bat against him with a .500+ expected slugging, and his 12.6% walk rate continues to extend innings that should end earlier. He has already allowed multiple extra-base hits in each of his last three starts, and the combination of free passes plus elevated contact keeps pushing pitch counts into dangerous territory by the second trip through. That is a profile that invites traffic and then pays for it. Bryce Elder has been the opposite so far: 0.77 ERA, 1.03 WHIP, 23 strikeouts in 23.1 innings with a 25.3% K rate, 1.7% barrel rate, 31.7% hard-hit rate, and .245 xwOBA allowed. He is also keeping the ball on the ground at a 50%+ clip and has allowed just one home run all season, which limits the one-swing damage that can flip an inning. He’s limiting clean contact and keeping innings from spiraling at a nutters rate. One side is suppressing damage; the other is consistently allowing it.

Atlanta’s lineup is built to take advantage of that exact weakness. Against right-handed pitching, the Braves lead MLB at .276/.343/.460 with an .802 OPS and 23 home runs, and over the last 10 days that has climbed to .313/.379/.512 with a .892 OPS and 10 home runs. They are also walking at a double-digit rate in that span while keeping strikeouts in check, which is the exact profile that punishes a pitcher with a 12.6% walk rate. The production is layered. Matt Olson sits at five home runs, a .279 average, and 16 RBI with a .500+ slugging mark, while Drake Baldwin has been a steady secondary force at .304/.366/.500 with five home runs and 19 RBI. Austin Riley has begun to find lift with multiple recent extra-base hits, and Ozzie Albies continues to pressure the zone with power from both sides. Atlanta has already produced 29 home runs and 122 runs in 22 games, and against a pitcher allowing a 14.8% barrel rate and nearly 50% hard contact, that kind of depth becomes pressure every inning.

Braves vs. Nationals pick, best bet

Washington can push back, and that is the only reason this is not a full-game over by default. The Nationals are hitting .243/.320/.386 with a .706 OPS against right-handed pitching, and they have real top-end production. CJ Abrams is at .320/.429/.600 with six home runs and 19 RBI, and James Wood has seven home runs and 18 RBI. That is enough to build a case for Washington contributing to the total. But the refutation sits in Elder’s profile. A 1.7% barrel rate and .245 xwOBA allowed is not the kind of contact environment that consistently turns traffic into runs. Washington can score, but its path is thinner and more dependent on sequencing than Atlanta’s.

That’s why the bet shape matters. A side asks you to trust Atlanta to control all phases of the game, including late innings. A full-game over asks you to trust Washington to keep pace. The team total isolates the cleanest edge on the board: Atlanta’s offense against Irvin’s contact and command profile. With 11 walks in 19.0 innings and a hard-hit rate pushing 50%, Irvin is putting runners on and allowing damage when hitters square him up. Atlanta’s current form suggests it does not need many innings to turn that into four or five runs, and the full game gives them enough volume to get there even if the first pass is quieter than expected. The way it dies is if Irvin strands traffic and limits damage on balls in play, but the underlying metrics point the other direction.

Braves team total over 4.5 (-115, playable to -125). Atlanta brings the best righty-on-righty offense in the league into a matchup against a pitcher allowing consistent hard contact and free baserunners, while Elder’s profile limits Washington’s ability to flip the script. This is a spot where the lineup carries the bet.

Final score: Braves 6, Nationals 3.

Best bet: Braves TT o4.5 (-115) at Nationals

Tail it with me in the DKN Betting Group here!

Dan Johnson takes you through his preview, prediction, and best bet for today’s baseball game between the Washington…

[2394
191,46,4166,5,192,4
0":"post-679914","1":"post","2":"type-post","3":"status-publish","4":"format-standard","5":"has-post-thumbnail","7":"category-atlanta-braves","8":"tag-atlanta","9":"tag-atlanta-braves","10":"tag-atlantabraves","11":"tag-baseball","12":"tag-braves","13":"tag-mlb
["GET
