The Bison posted 11 hits as a team with <a href=\"http:\/\/gobison.com\/sports\/baseball\/roster\/kyle-law\/24147\" rel=\"smarttag nofollow noopener\" rev=\"24147\" target=\"_blank\">Kyle Law<\/a> recording a season-best three hits on four appearances to go along with two RBI and two runs. <a href=\"http:\/\/gobison.com\/sports\/baseball\/roster\/jonah-walker\/24170\" rel=\"smarttag nofollow noopener\" rev=\"24170\" target=\"_blank\">Jonah Walker<\/a> earned his first win of the season with two strikeouts over 6.0 innings. <a href=\"http:\/\/gobison.com\/sports\/baseball\/roster\/zak-szabo\/24171\" rel=\"smarttag nofollow noopener\" rev=\"24171\" target=\"_blank\">Zak Szabo<\/a> picked up his first career save as a Bison with four strikeouts over 3.0 scoreless innings.<br \/>\n\u00a0<br \/>\nTHE SERIES VS. MINNESOTA<br \/>\nThis will be the 49th all-time meeting between NDSU and Minnesota dating back to 1964 with the Gophers leading the series, 33-15.\u00a0 The Bison have won three of the last five meetings with the Gophers, including a 7-4 win in extra innings earlier this season at U.S. Bank Stadium. Under fifth-year head coach <a href=\"http:\/\/gobison.com\/sports\/baseball\/roster\/coaches\/tyler-oakes\/2416\" rel=\"smarttag nofollow noopener\" rev=\"2416\" target=\"_blank\">Tyler Oakes<\/a>, NDSU is 9-29 against power four opponents, including a 6-7 mark against B1G opponents.<br \/>\n\u00a0<br \/>\nLIFE ON THE ROAD<br \/>\nThe Bison were originally scheduled to play their first 24 games away from home, but weather forced schedule changes after each of the first two home series were adjusted. NDSU played 27 straight on the road before opening its home schedule with a doubleheader against Omaha on April 19.<br \/>\n\u00a0<br \/>\nPOWER FOUR WINS<br \/>\nThe Bison have faced opponents from three of the four power conferences this season. NDSU has taken on teams from the ACC (Virginia), SEC (Missouri, Vanderbilt) and Big Ten (Nebraska, Minnesota) across nine games, including a 5-2 win at Vanderbilt and a 7-4 extra-inning win at Minnesota.<br \/>\n\u00a0<br \/>\nHOMERUN BALL<br \/>\nAfter only hitting eight home runs over the first 19 games, the Bison have erupted for 18 homers over the last 10 games and have hit least one in each game over that stretch. It marks the longest streak for NDSU since at least the 2000 season. <a href=\"http:\/\/gobison.com\/sports\/baseball\/roster\/colten-becker\/24143\" rel=\"smarttag nofollow noopener\" rev=\"24143\" target=\"_blank\">Colten Becker<\/a> leads the Bison with a team-best six over the 10-game stretch. He currently leads the Summit League with five home runs in conference play.<br \/>\n\u00a0<br \/>\nBISON STREAKS AND MULTI-HIT GAMES<br \/>\n&#8211; <a href=\"http:\/\/gobison.com\/sports\/baseball\/roster\/caleb-corbin\/24160\" rel=\"smarttag nofollow noopener\" rev=\"24160\" target=\"_blank\">Caleb Corbin<\/a> has totaled a team-high seven multiple hit games.<br \/>\n&#8211; <a href=\"http:\/\/gobison.com\/sports\/baseball\/roster\/colten-becker\/24143\" rel=\"smarttag nofollow noopener\" rev=\"24143\" target=\"_blank\">Colten Becker<\/a> assembled a team-high 10-game hit streak earlier this season, which was the longest of any player on the roster.<br \/>\n&#8211; <a href=\"http:\/\/gobison.com\/sports\/baseball\/roster\/colten-becker\/24143\" rel=\"smarttag nofollow noopener\" rev=\"24143\" target=\"_blank\">Colten Becker<\/a> is on a team-best and season-high 10-game reached base streak.<br \/>\n\u00a0<br \/>\nWORKING OUT OF THE BULLPEN<br \/>\n<a href=\"http:\/\/gobison.com\/sports\/baseball\/roster\/sheamus-ryan\/24164\" rel=\"smarttag nofollow noopener\" rev=\"24164\" target=\"_blank\">Sheamus Ryan<\/a> has made nine relief appearances out of the bullpen in his freshman season. The Calgary, Alberta native has tossed 18 strikeouts over 27.1 innings. Ryan also hasn&#8217;t allowed a run in each of his last four appearances (12.1 innings).<br \/>\n\u00a0<br \/>\nYEAR FIVE UNDER OAKES<br \/>\nHead coach <a href=\"http:\/\/gobison.com\/sports\/baseball\/roster\/coaches\/tyler-oakes\/2416\" rel=\"smarttag nofollow noopener\" rev=\"2416\" target=\"_blank\">Tyler Oakes<\/a> enters his fifth season as the head coach and 13th season overall at NDSU. He recently surpassed the 100 career wins mark in the 4-3 win at Northern Colorado with a 101-136-1 overall record. Oakes joins Mitch McLeod (347 wins), Tod Brown (341 wins) and Jim Pattersen (131 wins) as the only coaches in Bison history to reach the mark. Oakes led the Bison to their first-ever Summit League regular season title in his first season in 2022 and their third Summit League Tournament championship last season.<br \/>\n\u00a0<br \/>\nSZABO NAMED PEAK PITCHER OF THE WEEK<br \/>\n<a href=\"http:\/\/gobison.com\/sports\/baseball\/roster\/zak-szabo\/24171\" rel=\"smarttag nofollow noopener\" rev=\"24171\" target=\"_blank\">Zak Szabo<\/a> was tabbed the Summit League Peak Pitcher of the Week for the first time in his career on March 10 after posting a team-high seven strikeouts over two relief appearances. He notched a 0.00 ERA and limited opponents to a .227 batting average across two appearances. Szabo contributed 4.1 scoreless frames with five strikeouts and no walks in the 5-2 win over Vanderbilt in the series finale.<br \/>\n\u00a0<br \/>\nPUETZ GRABS PEAK PITCHER OF THE WEEK HONORS<br \/>\n<a href=\"http:\/\/gobison.com\/sports\/baseball\/roster\/parker-puetz\/24150\" rel=\"smarttag nofollow noopener\" rev=\"24150\" target=\"_blank\">Parker Puetz<\/a> was named the Summit League Peak Pitcher of the Week for the first time in his career on Feb. 17. He logged 5.0 scoreless frames in the season-opener at Florida Gulf Coast. Puetz tossed a career-best eight strikeouts with one hit and two walks and held the Eagles to a .067 batting average.<br \/>\n\u00a0<br \/>\nTHE CHALLENGING SCHEDULE AHEAD<br \/>\nThe Bison are set to play 51 games and will take on 11 different opponents across 21 total non-conference games. The non-conference portion of the schedule features four opponents that qualified for the NCAA Tournament last season, including Stetson, Vanderbilt, Nebraska and Creighton.<br \/>\n\u00a0<br \/>\nBISON RETURN TO THE NCAA TOURNAMENT<br \/>\nThe Bison returned to the NCAA Tournament for the third time in the NDSU Division I era last season and first time since 2021. It marked their second straight appearance winning at least one game after upending then-ranked No. 23 Kansas, 4-3, in an elimination game in the Fayetteville regional. NDSU clinched its spot in the NCAA Tournament after winning the Summit League Tournament for the third time in program history.<br \/>\n\u00a0<br \/>\nSUMMIT LEAGUE PLAYERS TO WATCH<br \/>\n<a href=\"http:\/\/gobison.com\/sports\/baseball\/roster\/dante-smith\/24155\" rel=\"smarttag nofollow noopener\" rev=\"24155\" target=\"_blank\">Dante Smith<\/a> and <a href=\"http:\/\/gobison.com\/sports\/baseball\/roster\/parker-puetz\/24150\" rel=\"smarttag nofollow noopener\" rev=\"24150\" target=\"_blank\">Parker Puetz<\/a> were named to the Summit League Players and Pitchers to Watch List. Smith is the only returning All-Summit League player on the roster from last season after posting a .375 batting average with 17 runs and 11 RBI in league play. Puetz made five starts on the mound last season after working himself back from injury for a majority of the season. He earned a spot on the 2023 D1Baseball Freshman All-America Second Team and 2023 All-Summit League Second Team.<br \/>\n\u00a0<br \/>\nWHO&#8217;S BACK?<br \/>\nNDSU returns four players that started in at least 50 percent of the games last season, including <a href=\"http:\/\/gobison.com\/sports\/baseball\/roster\/dante-smith\/24155\" rel=\"smarttag nofollow noopener\" rev=\"24155\" target=\"_blank\">Dante Smith<\/a>, <a href=\"http:\/\/gobison.com\/sports\/baseball\/roster\/colten-becker\/24143\" rel=\"smarttag nofollow noopener\" rev=\"24143\" target=\"_blank\">Colten Becker<\/a>, <a href=\"http:\/\/gobison.com\/sports\/baseball\/roster\/noah-gordon\/24145\" rel=\"smarttag nofollow noopener\" rev=\"24145\" target=\"_blank\">Noah Gordon<\/a> and <a href=\"http:\/\/gobison.com\/sports\/baseball\/roster\/tommy-simon\/24154\" rel=\"smarttag nofollow noopener\" rev=\"24154\" target=\"_blank\">Tommy Simon<\/a>. <a href=\"http:\/\/gobison.com\/sports\/baseball\/roster\/matt-sargeant\/24151\" rel=\"smarttag nofollow noopener\" rev=\"24151\" target=\"_blank\">Matt Sargeant<\/a> and <a href=\"http:\/\/gobison.com\/sports\/baseball\/roster\/garrett-shupe\/24153\" rel=\"smarttag nofollow noopener\" rev=\"24153\" target=\"_blank\">Garrett Shupe<\/a> are the only two pitchers on the roster to have appeared in at least 10.0 innings last season. Over the last four seasons, the Bison have played in front of five of the largest road crowds in program history since 1977. Last season, the Bison played in front of 10,446 fans at LSU on March 5, 2025, the highest road attendance in program history.<br \/>\n\u00a0<br \/>\n30TH SEASON AT NEWMAN OUTDOOR FIELD<br \/>\nThis season will mark the 30th season of Bison baseball at Newman Outdoor Field dating back to 1997. NDSU has amassed a 265-153-1 overall record over that span at home.<br \/>\n\u00a0<br \/>\nBISON TAKE ON REDHAWKS IN EXHIBITION PLAY<br \/>\nFor the second straight season, NDSU will take on the Fargo-Moorhead RedHawks in exhibition play at Newman Outdoor Field on May 6 at 6:00 p.m. The RedHawks edged the Bison last season in front of 1,908 fans. The RedHawks are members of the American Association and also play home games at Newman Outdoor Field.<br \/>\n\u00a0<br \/>\n#PROBISON<br \/>\nNDSU has had nine incoming or current players selected in the MLB Draft since 2013. Joey Danielson became the 14th NDSU player selected in the MLB Draft dating back to 1968 after the Texas Rangers picked him in the 17th round in 2024. It marked the second straight season NDSU had a current pitcher selected in the draft after Cade Feeney was picked by the Boston Red Sox in the 13th round in 2023. Bennett Hostetler was also selected in the 18th round of the 2021 MLB Draft by the Miami Marlins. He was recently activated to the roster for the Triple-A Jacksonville Jumbo Shrimp on April 9.<br \/>\n\u00a0<br \/>\nBELZER JOINS COACHING STAFF<br \/>\n<a href=\"http:\/\/gobison.com\/sports\/baseball\/roster\/coaches\/nick-belzer\/2428\" rel=\"smarttag nofollow noopener\" rev=\"2428\" target=\"_blank\">Nick Belzer<\/a> joined the NDSU coaching staff this offseason as an assistant coach. He started his college career at DMACC before playing two seasons at Minnesota State from 2017-18.
