The Boston Red Sox<\/a> picked up a huge 8-6 win over the Detroit Tigers on Marathon Monday.<\/p>\n

Boston was looking to split the four-game series against the Tigers. The Red Sox got out to a 2-0 lead, but starting pitcher Sonny Gray exited the game in the third inning due to an injury.<\/p>\n

Despite the Red Sox needing over six innings of innings covered from the bullpen, Boston was able to edge out a high-scoring win, which catcher Carlos Narv\u00e1ez\u00a0felt was needed for the team<\/a>.<\/p>\n

\u201cWe needed a game like this,\u201d Narv\u00e1ez said postgame. \u201cIt was good for us (to) close the series like that, knowing that we\u2019ve got a big one (coming up). Every one is a big one for us, especially right now. Good team win.\u201d<\/p>\n

Red Sox manager Alex Cora, meanwhile, was just happy the team found a way to win in a game he felt like the team didn\u2019t play their best.<\/p>\n

\u201cJust find a way to win,\u201d said Cora. \u201cWe walked a lot today. There was traffic. We ran the bases well. We put pressure on opposition, and that’s where we\u2019re at right now. There were some good at-bats. So that’s what it’s going to take for us to score runs. And we will maximize the roster.\u201d<\/p>\n

Regardless, Boston was able to get a huge win on Marathon Monday to split the four-game series against Detroit and improve to 9-13 on the season.<\/p>\n

The Red Sox will return to the field on Tuesday at home for a pivotal three-game home series against the New York Yankees.<\/p>\n
