{"id":680230,"date":"2026-04-21T09:19:39","date_gmt":"2026-04-21T09:19:39","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.rawchili.com\/mlb\/680230\/"},"modified":"2026-04-21T09:19:39","modified_gmt":"2026-04-21T09:19:39","slug":"ecc-scores-four-in-6th-to-top-keystone-baseball","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.rawchili.com\/mlb\/680230\/","title":{"rendered":"ECC scores four in 6th to top Keystone | Baseball"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>DUBOIS \u2014 In a neutral-site game, the Elk County Catholic baseball team broke a 1-1 tie with four runs in the top of the sixth inning on their way to a 5-1 victory over Keystone on Saturday at Stern Field in DuBois \u2014 a game that finished just ahead of the rain.<\/p>\n<p>ECC hasn\u2019t lost a game since March 27th \u2014 a 6-5 defeat at the hand of undefeated DuBois and the closest game the Beavers have seen this year \u2014 and have won eight straight.<\/p>\n<p>The Crusaders only had five hits, but they made the most of them, recording three of them \u2014 two doubles \u2014 in the deciding sixth frame. Wyatt Brem had two of the hits, including a double, with Paxton Herzing also doubling and Brady Leathers and Frankie Smith tallying singles.<\/p>\n<p>Brem went the distance on the bump, allowing just one earned run on three hits and three walks and striking out eight.<\/p>\n<p>The four-run sixth inning started with Herzing\u2019s double to right field, and with one out, Leathers singled him home to put ECC ahead 2-1. Brem then doubled to put a pair on base, and after a walk to Matthew Gilmore loaded the bases, Leathers scored on a fielder\u2019s choice groundout by Landon Smith. Gideon Cronk followed with a hard grounder that resulted in an error and brought two more home to push the lead to 5-1.<\/p>\n<p>The Crusaders\u2019 first run came in the top of the second after Leathers walked, Brem reached on an error, and Smith added a productive groundout to plate Leathers.<\/p>\n<p>ECC (8-2) was scheduled to play again Monday, at Clarion Area, but the weather had other plans for them, so instead, they\u2019ll travel to Brockway on Wednesday.<\/p>\n<p>In other baseball action from Saturday:<\/p>\n<p>St Marys 16, Bradford 5:<\/p>\n<p>St. Marys broke out of a bit of a slump on Saturday, connecting for 14 hits on their way to a 16-5 victory over Bradford, ending a seven-game skid with the big win.<\/p>\n<p>The Dutchmen put up crooked numbers in five of their at-bats, scoring four runs in each of the first two innings, two in the fifth, and three in both the sixth and seventh inning.<\/p>\n<p>Joel Beimel had a double and two singles to go with five RBIs to power the St. Marys offense, with Tysen Beimel adding a pair of doubles and two RBIs of his own.<\/p>\n<p>Mason Nicklas doubled and singled for the winners, and Benny Mecca had two hits, while Mecca and JJ Hanslovan each drove in a pair of runs.<\/p>\n<p>Cameron Coudriet earned the win on the mound, pitching the first 6-2\/3 innings and allowing five runs on eight hits and two walks, while fanning 10.
