{"id":680339,"date":"2026-04-21T12:54:40","date_gmt":"2026-04-21T12:54:40","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.rawchili.com\/mlb\/680339\/"},"modified":"2026-04-21T12:54:40","modified_gmt":"2026-04-21T12:54:40","slug":"chicago-white-sox-kyle-teel-update-takeaways-from-road-trip","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.rawchili.com\/mlb\/680339\/","title":{"rendered":"Chicago White Sox: Kyle Teel update, takeaways from road trip"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>PHOENIX \u2014 Chicago White Sox catcher Kyle Teel feels like he\u2019s \u201cgetting better every day\u201d as he continues recovering from a right hamstring strain.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWe\u2019re not sure yet when I\u2019m going out (on a rehab assignment),\u201d Teel said Sunday at Sutter Health Park in West Sacramento, Calif. \u201cIt\u2019s just trying to get better every day with it.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI\u2019m just not ready to go out yet with how my hamstring is. Although we\u2019re improving and it\u2019s getting better, it\u2019s just taking it day by day with everything.\u201d<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.chicagotribune.com\/2026\/04\/19\/chicago-white-sox-athletics-takeaways-noah-schultz\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">3 takeaways from Chicago White Sox\u2019s series win, including Noah Schultz\u2019s win and Munetaka Murakami\u2019s grand slam<\/a><\/p>\n<\/p>\n<p>Teel continued rehabbing while traveling with the club for the series against the Athletics. And he\u2019ll keep working in Phoenix when the Sox begin a three-game series against the Arizona Diamondbacks on Tuesday at Chase Field.<\/p>\n<p>Here are three Sox takeaways halfway through their <a href=\"https:\/\/www.chicagotribune.com\/2026\/04\/19\/chicago-white-sox-athletics-takeaways-noah-schultz\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">six-game trip<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>1. Running remains the toughest task for Kyle Teel during rehab.<\/p>\n<p>Teel misses playing \u201ca ton.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Teel last appeared in a game <a href=\"https:\/\/www.chicagotribune.com\/2026\/03\/13\/chicago-white-sox-kyle-teel-injury-wbc\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">on March 10<\/a>, when he suffered the injury on his way to second base for a double while playing for Italy in the World Baseball Classic.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cIt\u2019s tough not playing every day,\u201d Teel said. \u201cIt\u2019s what I love to do. I feel like it\u2019s definitely difficult.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Teel said he can swing and catch, \u201cbut running is tough.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cIt\u2019s just strengthening the muscle, it\u2019s still fairly weak,\u201d Teel said. \u201cI feel like I\u2019m not curling as much weight with it. I\u2019m not running 100% yet. Just making sure I\u2019m 100% so I can come back and not get hurt again.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI\u2019m just trying to be diligent every day with getting my work in. I feel like I\u2019m doing a great job with that. (Kenneth Richmond\/Getty Images)<\/p>\n<p>Teel knows it\u2019s important to be patient.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cPatience is important because it can get frustrating,\u201d he said. \u201cJust understanding that it\u2019s a long season. So it\u2019s just being patient, but still having that in the back of my mind that, like, I want to get out and get back to playing, trying to really strive towards that.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>2. (AP Photo\/Sara Nevis)<\/p>\n<p>Colson Montgomery set the offensive tone for the series with an RBI double in the first inning of Friday\u2019s 9-2 victory against the Athletics. Montgomery had two hits and two RBIs on Friday.<\/p>\n<p>The shortstop hit solo home runs on Saturday and Sunday.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI feel good,\u201d Montgomery said after Sunday\u2019s 7-4 victory. \u201cJust sticking with my plan, staying committed to my plan. Scouting the pitchers, all those things. When you combine all those things and you go out there and trust your plan and you execute it, you find things like today.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cEspecially, not just with me, but with everybody else. I feel like everyone else is going up there with a really good plan and staying committed to it and putting good swings on the ball.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Sox batters hit eight home runs while winning two of three in the series against the Athletics. Munetaka Murakami led the power surge, hitting a home run in <a href=\"https:\/\/www.chicagotribune.com\/2026\/04\/19\/chicago-white-sox-athletics-takeaways-noah-schultz\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">each of the three games<\/a> \u2014 including a <a href=\"https:\/\/www.chicagotribune.com\/2026\/04\/17\/chicago-white-sox-athletics-munetaka-murakami-grand-slam\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">grand slam on Friday<\/a>. He has eight home runs, the most by a Japanese-born player over the first 22 career games in major-league history. Shohei Ohtani had five in his first 22 games as a hitter.<\/p>\n<p>\u201c(The season is) so long, the ups and downs of figuring out how they\u2019re pitching you and things like that, of how to adjust,\u201d Montgomery said of Murakami rebounding following a 1-for-23 stretch from April 5-12. \u201cHe kept with it, he stayed with it, he worked his butt off in the cage.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cIt doesn\u2019t surprise me that he\u2019s swinging it well.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>3.
