Landon Lassahn and Ben DeTienne combined to toss a two-hit shutout in the Verona baseball team\u2019s 7-0 Big Eight win over Madison East on Thursday, April 16, at Warner Park.<\/p>\n
Lassahn started on the mound and turned in a dominating performance, going five one-hit innings and striking out 11 to get the win. DeTienne tossed two innings in relief and struck out three.<\/p>\n
Verona earned a sweep over Madison East with a 2-1 win on Monday, at Stampfl Field. With the wins, Verona improves to 3-2, 3-1 Big Eight.<\/p>\n
Grady Miller went 3-for-3 with one RBI and a run scored. Wes Willenburg drove in two runs and Cason Genin scored two runs.<\/p>\n
The Wildcats jumped out to a two-run lead in the top of the second inning when Caden Martin knocked in a run on a sacrifice fly and Miller delivered an RBI single. Miller also had a triple in the Wildcats\u2019 five-run fifth.<\/p>\n
Verona 2 Madison East 1<\/p>\n
Jaxon Wepking delivered a walk-off RBI single to propel the Wildcats to a conference win over the Purgolders on April 20, at Stampfl Field.<\/p>\n
Wepking went 2-for-4 at the plate. Martin also knocked in a run.<\/p>\n
Verona\u2019s Griffin Kilcoyne pitched 5 \u2153 innings and gave up one earned run on one hit. He struck out six and didn\u2019t issue a walk.
