Students from TCC\u00a0attended a career\u00a0panel\u00a0at Globe Life Field\u00a0in Arlington\u00a0where Texas Rangers employees from different departments shared\u00a0their journeys and the path they took to be where they are today.\u00a0\u00a0<\/p>\n
The panel explained what happens behind the scenes of a\u00a0Major\u00a0League\u00a0Baseball organization beyond the field.\u00a0<\/p>\n
\u201cYou\u2019re going to hear\u00a0from various departments that work for the Rangers,\u201d said Ray Casas,\u00a0the\u00a0senior\u00a0director of\u00a0community\u00a0impact for the Rangers,\u00a0while\u00a0conducting\u00a0the panel.\u00a0\u00a0<\/p>\n
Nick Richardson, vice president of ticket retention and new business\u00a0development, told students his path was not straightforward. He\u00a0originally studied\u00a0premedical\u00a0sciences.\u00a0Eventually,\u00a0Richardson figured out he hated science\u00a0and\u00a0later\u00a0a\u00a0Rangers\u00a0internship opportunity came his way.\u00a0<\/p>\n
\u201cI had no idea\u00a0that\u00a0a job in sports even existed,\u201d Richardson said. \u201cI thought people just took tickets, sold tickets, and you showed up to the game.\u201d\u00a0\u00a0<\/p>\n
Richardson\u00a0explained\u00a0he got this opportunity thanks to the way he sees himself and the people he has met\u00a0along the way.\u00a0\u00a0<\/p>\n
\u201cLook at yourself as a brand and market that brand,\u201d Richardson said.\u00a0<\/p>\n
Gabby De\u00a0la Rosa, a\u00a0human resources\u00a0assistant\u00a0with the Rangers, said she started at TCC before transferring to\u00a0University\u00a0of North Texas and earning a degree in business analytics.\u00a0<\/p>\n
\u201cI had a really\u00a0great experience\u00a0at TCC.\u00a0It helped me get ahead,\u201d De\u00a0la Rosa said.\u00a0<\/p>\n
De\u00a0la Rosa told students she did not always know exactly what career she wanted,\u00a0something many college students experience.\u00a0She said working with the Rangers has already given her unique opportunities, including traveling to spring training and\u00a0assisting\u00a0with major HR projects.\u00a0<\/p>\n
Myra Palacios, assistant vice president of events for REV Entertainment,\u00a0also took\u00a0community college courses.\u00a0She later built a career in sports and entertainment that eventually led her to the Rangers organization, attributing where she is now to\u00a0her early education days.\u00a0<\/p>\n
