Spring sports playoff action is gearing up across the state, with the ACE leading the way in Macon as multiple Gryphon teams prepare to host postseason contests.<\/p>\n
The ACE boys and girls soccer teams both earned impressive No. 2 seeds in their respective Class A\u2011Division I brackets, determined by the GHSA\u2019s Post Season Ranking (PSR) formula. The girls entered the playoffs at 17\u20111 overall and a perfect 7\u20110 in Region 2, while the boys finished the regular season 11\u20115 overall and undefeated in region play.<\/p>\n
The ACE girls opened postseason play on Tuesday with a first\u2011round matchup against the No. 31 seed Gordon Central. The winner of that match will advance to face the winner of the Central Macon\u2013Pepperell contest in the second round next week.<\/p>\n
The ACE boys will take the field at home on Wednesday at 6 p.m. against No. 31 Worth County. A victory would set up a second\u2011round matchup against the winner of the Berrien\u2013Social Circle game.<\/p>\n
Howard was the only other Macon school to qualify for the soccer playoffs. The Huskies earned the No. 30 seed in the Class 3A boys tournament and will face familiar foe West Laurens in the opening round. Howard finished 10\u20117 overall and 7\u20117 in Region 4\u20113A, but struggled against the Raiders during the regular season, dropping both meetings by scores of 2\u20111 and 3\u20111.<\/p>\n
On the diamond, ACE stands as the lone public school from Macon to reach the baseball postseason. The Gryphons are the No. 9 seed in Class A\u2011Division I and will host a best\u2011of\u2011three first\u2011round series against No. 24 seed Haralson County, beginning Friday.<\/p>\n
Haralson County finished sixth in Region 6\u2011D1A and qualified for the playoffs via the GHSA rankings, though the Rebels enter the postseason riding a six\u2011game losing streak. The winner of the series will advance to face the winner of the Fitzgerald\u2013East Laurens matchup. East Laurens and ACE, region rivals, split their two regular\u2011season meetings.<\/p>\n
