Council will give city staff direction on the status of those negotiations.

The city has been working with a developer on a plan for that land.

Development vision

The land near Costco in College Station’s Midtown Business Park has been in the city’s hands for years. Michael Ostrowski, City of College Station’s chief development officer, said the plan for the area has continued to advance.

“The city owns 28 acres that we entered into, offered a purchase with a developer last year, and we’re continuing the negotiations, continuing to flesh out the site plan of that site, as well as some of the potential users that could go there,” Ostrowski said.

The vision for the site draws inspiration from Century Square, with green space at its center and buildings surrounding it.

“As we work with the developer, we’ve got a development agreement that we’re working with them on to create a larger green space on the site, similar to what you would see at Century Square,” Ostrowski said. “It won’t be as dense, but we’ll have a nice green space in it that will allow people to congregate in that area, have some playscapes potentially, and then buildings would surround that green space very similar to what you see in Century Square.”

In February, the council approved a letter of intent for a nine-field baseball complex nearby, estimated to generate $28 million in economic activity each year.

Ostrowski said a final agreement on the 28-acre site could come within weeks.

“We’re hopeful that we’ll be bringing back the final agreement probably within the next month or two,” Ostrowski said. “So as we get direction tomorrow, we’ll go back and work with the developers for that potential project and get the development agreement ironed out as well as the purchase agreement. And then hopefully that’ll be back in front of the council within the next couple of months.”

If the council takes a formal vote on these land deals in the future, it will be held in open session. Council will also discuss the options on what to do with the land they own at the Macy’s at the Oakmont Mall.

Copyright 2026 KBTX.
